"they also mentioned Richardson from New Mexico for a VP spot."

No way, Richardson has Skeletons in his closet.

Dean's VP will be Bob Graham, not Richardson - I guarantee it.

How to make Brit Hume's show the worst on TV:

Add Bill O'Reilly to his panel.

This is ridiculous. Bill O'Reilly has his own show on FNC called The O'Reilly Factor

Have you seen Bob Graham on the tube? He makes even Dan Quayle look good in that medium. It ain't gonna happen.

"If the President's coattails are of historical proportions as I guess, Daschle is also toast."

McGovern got sent home (to SoDak). IMO McGovern was a hell of a lot more impressive, than Daschle.

"Impressive" meaning national stature, name importance, etc.

I doubt anyone on television is going to project the Republicans at 55 or higher in the Senate, not that I would expect them to. In 1980 few thought the Republicans would take the Senate, and in 1994 it was not widely thought the Republicans would take the House. The point is we don't know how these races are going to gel once the campaign starts in earnest. We have the 5 south races, but we also have the possiblity for hot races in South Dakota, Nevada, Washington, Wisconsin and California.

If the GOP gets 55 or more, I doubt many will be expecting it.

"It ain't gonna happen."

It will because Dean knows he can't win unless he wins Florida in addition to carrying all the states Gore took in 2000. Graham is still popular in Florida.

I agree, outside of Florida Graham comes across as a senile nut - but a large chunk of Floridians still like him.

Dean will take Graham just so he can stay competitive in FL.

No. My little brother pretending he was born in 1863 is ridiculous. He still gets carded at the bars.

Yes - most TV political analysts are very loathe to predict a change in the status quo in Washington. They like to hedge their bets - though I will check out Brits panel when they replay it at midnight.

"If the GOP gets 55 or more, I doubt many will be expecting it."

Another thing to remember is that we will probably get Jeffords and Ben Nelson to switch to the GOP if we get 55 or more Senate seats.

Jeffords was toying with the idea of switching back after the GOP romp in 2002.

So we could be looking at a GOP 57 seat majority which will make things much easier for Dubya to get his agenda through.

See #74

Could be, MEG, but I just don't
think he would wear well against
W & under national scrutiny; just
being an old party D.C. hack won't
cut it in these times, IMO.

They also talked about two Republican black candidates who could win in the House. I wasn't familiar with either name.

Vernon Robinson in North Carolina, Dylan Glenn in Georgia. Both are running in very Republican districts although may have primary opponents.

Although I did enjoy the show immensely, I felt they should have mentioned that Minnesota has trended Republican since going for Gore in 2000. Republican Governor now (Pawlenty) and Senator (Coleman).

They talked about whether Dems. had any possibilities in the South and someone mentioned that if Clark got the nomination he could win Arkansas, but that was it.

Someone needed to make the point that if Dean was the Presidential nominee there would be fallout for Senate candidates. Carson cannot win OK if Dean is the nominee. Someone mentioned McCurdy on this thread. I knew McCurdy was sunk when he wore a red ribbon during the 1992 DNC convention. OK voters aren't all that enthralled with politicians sporting red ribbons as if they are at the Academy Awards. Also, Inhofe had a great commercial lampooning the crime bill, particularly "dance classes" for prisoners, having some Biker type in a tutu dancing in a prison.

The point was that even a likeable, moderate nominee can be devastated when the Party presidential nominee (or, for that matter, President) is someone who is ultra liberal on social issues, such as Clinton's desire for "gays in the military" or Dean's being the first governor to legalize gay unions.

Yes, I watched it and am even more concerned about Oklahoma losing that Senate seat to Brad Carson, and a Democrat picking up Brad Carson's seat in the house. What a nightmare!

President Bush is going to have to come to this state and help our candidates, and Republicans are going to have to turn out the vote.

I thought it was an excellent show and I am looking forward to this political year.

I'm not so sure anymore that Dean can stand the death of a thousand cuts. The long knives, read Carville and Klink, are out to get him and their eyes are on 2008 and Ms Hillary. One more actual or perceived gaffe by Dean and Gephart will win Iowa for sure. He may anyway.

As for Deans running mate, if he wins the nod, it will be somebody with military credentials. Maybe Zinni.

Why is Brit Hume so good and O'Reilly such a pompous windbag?

I hate to sound sexist (well I don't hate it that much) but O'Reilly's show is really for women and Brits is really for men and Freeper Gals. O'Reilly is a windbag but the girls just think he is wonderful. We all love Brit because in his heart of hearts he is a Freeper.

Understood. I just postulate that
he would fade not increase as he
would receive overwhelming media
exposure(even biased). Many people
have a vague sense of who he is.
The more they get dosed, the less
they'll want him to be President.

My sense of it, anyhow...

I hate to admit it, but I don't know who the hell Zinni is. (I know you know who is he, since I have noticed your name near the word "Zinni;" I assume you were not touting him.) I did a search of his name on FR, and came up with a thread article that accused him of blaming in all on the Jews. Even given this perfervid neighborhood, that is not a good start.

Don't believe everything you read. Zinni doesn't hate jews, he hates neocons. :-}
