Town Refuses to Ask Citizens If Library Porn Should Be Filtered Out; Plan2Succeed.org Seeking Pro Bono Counsel.

Gotta love it! The ole "we made those poor oppressed Islamo-Nazis hate us cause we're evil" argument.
Good one, VRWC.
Well, sort of. In a large city with full staff and different sections, this could help. In a smaller town with part-time or volunteer staff or, like in my local library, certain times of day when large numbers of kids roam unsupervised, this will be more difficult. Smaller libraries have fewer computers available in general and those are often centrally located. 'Dedicating' certain computers for certain users limits the overall availability in smaller libraries. And there is the problem of pervs. Molesters who shouldn't be there anyway, blending in with the adult population they have even easier access to their addictions than ever before.
Plus, of all the ways people so inclined can access porn, who, really who?, wants to go to the library for porn? (ewww) Aren't there theatres or magazines? Why go to a public place for what is usually something viewed in private or with like-minded individuals? I think one has to question the motives of at least some of the people who want to view porn thusly. Even movie rental places have private rooms and booths for this purpose, so as not to disturb the other patrons of the non-porn variety.
Ahh - a true utopian. I bet you think "Stranger in a Strange Land" is great literature, too.
Ok, so all laws or social standards about public sex, nudity, defecation, etc should be undone so that YOU can "decide" what is good for you to do in public or private. Sounds like a great way to run a civilzation of human beings. Or would it be a civilization of dogs?
Wow, you took the words right out of my mouth. I have immense fun asking certain staff members of our local library for Ann Coulter's books or Peggy Noonan's. The expression on her face is priceless and she sometimes tries to recommend other books, like Hillary's. Also, I like to ask what measures are being taken to protect our kids from viewing porn, intentionally or not. This librarian gets quite fired up about how she's not a babysitter and it's up to the parents and we can't squelch free speech. One member of the staff is quite freeper minded (she should be a member) and has told me she is glad that someone else besides her is asking these questions.
It's easy to see moral decay in action right at the library. And sad too. Sad, also, how the staff defends the decay.
Oh, sniff sniff. You have a hard time doing your work on the library computer.
Then buy your own and work at home.
I'm sorry, but this is needlessly alarmist. People don't turn into shambling, slobbering, short-circuited rapists by simple exposure to porn. The human psyche is a bit too complicated and convoluted to be subject to such an exaggerated Pavlovian response than what you describe.
It happens more often than you think because the media are not reporting such incidents.
As much as I disdain the Liberal mainstream media, I find it incredible that they would sit on such stories; especially considering their love of salacious news like the Kobe Bryant saga. If what you claim were actually occuring, the news outlets would be falling all over themselves to report it, even if only for the ratings alone.
Something is wrong when a small group of people called a Library Board of Trustees determines that a public library must continue to allow access to pornography despite admittedly being outside the library's mission, the Township Committee claims it is powerless to stop the Board, and the citizens have no say.
Something is wrong indeed. This is socialism and the far leftists must be thrilled that it is working so well and working as designed and the sheeple (most of the rest of the people, not us freepers) are so willing to bend over and take it. How can the citizens have no say?? Socialism. How can they not even care?? More fruits of socialism. Porn outside the library's mission and people powerless to do something about it?? More socialism. Somewhere, glasses are clinking and back's are being patted. People need to wake up and take a close look. Next time it might be something more of them care more about.
Go Ask Alice apparently deleted their couple of articles on 'safe' beastiality. But there is still plenty of discussion on rimming and fisting. I am glad to see they have standards on the vital info they provide children. Quite good reading for kids of all ages.....
Its called manners. Lets assume you invited your future mother-in-law to your apartment and you had a naked picture of her daughter on the wall. Its your right to hang the photo and not consider that it might be offensive to others.
Everything is about your rights, nothing is about others. Thats an America that I want no part of.
Merely banning it makes it that much more desirable...
By that logic drugs should all be legalized, and the age for drinking liquor should be lowered to - ten? Nine? Nothing should be illegal then, if "banning" it (making it illegal) makes it more "desirable". Why have any laws against anything? Your argument is absurd.
It is true that parents need to do good parenting, but it is becoming harder and harder in a world with so many broken homes and social decay in part fostered by sexualization of children at earlier and earlier ages.
That's not at all what you suggested ... unless you expect your mother-in-law to open up on you with her "nine" because of the pic. Not to mention that in order to keep the analogy working you ought to expect her to drive a rented Geo Metro through your living room for having the audacity to marry her daughter in the first place.
What it comes down to for me is this; I'm not in the mood to do anything in deference to what sheet-headed murderers think of me. That is what you were suggesting.
An America that hides its art in order to not offend Osama bin Laden isn't one I'll have a part of.
My original post that contained the comments was that the statute was a distracting background. You may not be aware but the curtain is only put up when the are going to use the area for public annoucements and interviews. When that happens a curtian is drawn accross for the backdrop instead of the statute.
The context of my comments is that for some the statute is merely a distraction, for others it might be a source of anger. When the purpose of having the press gather and film is to convey information, having a background that is at least distracting and at most offensive to some is not the best background and a curtain is a rational remedy.
Me either. Its not hidden. Its just not used as a backdrop when cameras are rolling.
