S. Florida teen girls discovering `bisexual chic' trend
Sun Sentinel ^ | December 30 2003 | Jamie Malernee

A group of teenagers is gathered at a party. Music's playing; smuggled booze is flowing. Two girls grin sheepishly at each other as a crowd goads them on.

Finally, the teens relent, rewarding their audience with some mouth-on-mouth action.

It's not an unusual scene, according to South Florida high school students, who say the newest trend for teen girls isn't wearing the latest designer jeans or driving a cool car, but declaring themselves to be bisexual.

I think some photos need to be posted so that we can examine the issue further.

"Maybe I'm out of step with the prevailing opinions here, but it doesn't seem like a big deal. Of all the experimentation that teen girls could do, this seems like one of the more harmless options.
"

Indeed. It's silly and, of course, the media focusing on it makes it even more desirable among teenagers. It seems that most teens will do just about anything to annoy the adults around them.

Here's an experiment. Everybody on this thread ask the women they know if they ever kissed another girl when they were younger. If they're honest, a majority will admit to doing this with a friend.

A non-issue.

TV is teaching young impressionable women how to be whores, and young impressionable men that that's OK.

And we laugh and say it just sex.

Another fake lifestyle article about a fake trend. This time it's designed to tittilate male readers. Never believe what your newspaper tells you is trendy.

Why do the names "Britney" and "Madonna" come to mind?

You mean the passing of the Slut Baton to a new generation?

I suspect this is the fad because it allows teens to engage in sex without the risk of getting pregnant. I doubt that the teens are really emotionally "gay."

I may get flamed for saying this and I don't think that i'm a minority other than i'm one of the only ones who will say it. I don't believe in being gay or bi-sexual, however the thought of seeing two women that were making out and were fixing to be with me would at the very least get my undivided attention. Now like some other poster said, two guy's would make me vomit, but two women er well sorry, afterall i'm a man.

Hedonism is one of the symptoms of the whole set of problems, rather than a problem itself. I think, much can be attributed to politicizing the issues that may not be politicized under any circumstances.

Political Correctness is the result of such practices. The very term suggests it is not a 'real' correctness. In other words, we restrict ourselves in usage of the terms for the concepts we feel uncomfortable with, we create wrappers around those concepts in order to make it seem as if those concepts have ceased to exist. The result is a multilayered denial: first we avoid using the words directly describing concepts (an individual's race, stature or religious affiliation, for example) next, we pretend - because we don't directly term the concepts - that the concepts themselves have disappeared. Thus, we create a universe where by the virtue of the new language we have devised, there are no problems. But just because we got rid of the word for the water (for example) we are not going to get rid of water, i.e. it is an objective reality, it is not going to go away just because we choose to ignore it.

We are not without a precedent here either: Western Europe, for instance, is an example of PC run amok, ancient Rome is an example of how ignoring the reality results in a fall of a civilization.

The difficult bit is to recognize the utopianism (at a given time) of certain goals we strive for and to understand when a goal has been achieved.

The article mentions 'stepping out of the boundaries'. Are those real boundaries or our teenagers are fighting windmills? Why don't we ask ourselves why these are the only issues that the teenagers seem to find in the most advanced and complex society in the world? How is it that they so hell bent on conformance at the time (of their development) when they should be questioning the world they live in? If you take the any serious topic, what you hear are memorized platitudes taken either from the media or directly from extremists groups' agenda. How do they manage to oppose anything without actually analyzing it? Are their lives so empty then, that a marketing trick utilized by some celebrities completely overwhelms them? Why don't we teach them such things as Critical Thinking? Might it not make them question what they see and feel before they actually embark upon acting it out?

It's been going on as long as time. I once (back in the 80's) had a date who told me I "kissed like a girl." She said that meant more tender than most guys, and more "mutual." She said when she was younger, she and a friend would "practice kiss" in preparation for the world of dating.

"The media has been driving this for years."

Yes, it's been a steady drumbeat of "gay this, gay that" for years. For something that's supposed to be nobody's business and no big deal, we keep having it rammed down our throats. Just goes to show the media are largely comprised of pinheads.

I bet there are only about 4 people on FR who know about T.a.t.u.... heh heh...

Personally, I found the Madonna-Brittany kiss to be high camp in comparison to T.a.t.u.'s appearance on an MTV award show with an incursion of dozens of young girls who stripped to their tank tops and kissed each other.

Have you seen the recent condom ads on MTV2? One is two boys in front of a pharmacist who end up kissing. The other is a girl who invites her newest boyfriend to take an AIDS test with her.

*Gagh*

I mean, yeah, I see what you mean.

The mantra used to be: "Who cares as long as it remians in the bedroom".

Then it became: They can't help it, they're born that way"

Later it became:"We should respect them, they are human beings who love and just want to share that love like anyone else."

Now it's: "Well, they're just kids, they'll grow out of it."

I think we've lost the battle and the war.

I'm one also. But what's so funny (and it just proves this is media-driven attention-grabbing behavior for publicity only) is one of the girls gave an interview recently with her BOYFRIEND.
