600 sign up for Saddam
Gulf Daily News (Bahrain) ^ | 12/29/03

AMMAN: More than 600 lawyers have signed up to defend captive Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, the head of Jordan's Bar Association told the Jordan Times newspaper yesterday. Hussein Mjalli said the volunteers had signed up at the association's offices in Amman and that 600 lawyers indicated their readiness to be part of a defence team for the former president of Iraq.

"The intention is to form a higher committee for the defence of Saddam, one which will include legal experts from all over the world," Mjalli said.

The general secretariat of the Arab Lawyers' Union was, meanwhile, due to meet in Cairo to discuss plans for setting up the defence team, he added.

"What can we say? Iraqis will not easily forget this. Sympathizers of the most notorious serial mass murderer of our people in history, we shall not forget. You are his partners in crime. We shall not forget. You will pay dearly, be sure of that. You send your murderers to bomb our streets and school children and trying to deny us normal life. Watch out, retribution will come"

That's something I've been predicting for a while. I understand, but hope care is taken when the blood feud starts in earnest. The terrorists murdering Iraqi children are playing for the media. This is all a game of international politics to them. Most Iraqis are more civilized than the the most oil rich Muslim countries. That's one of their greatest strengths.

Give Sadam a fair trial, then take him out back and hang him.

Then take the 600 lawyers out back and hang them. No trial, just hang them.

Too bad there wasn't similar interest on the part of these lawyers in defending some of Saddam's hundreds of thousands of victims from summary execution after mock or nonexistent trials.

Certainly, the Cult of Saddam we see flourishing in the wake of his capture goes a long way toward explaining how monsters like him can gain, maintain and abuse power.

On the bright side, the scum-sucking bottom feeders defending Saddam will have no choice but to wade through the mountains of grisly evidence confirming his guilt.

That's a test of conscience even a lawyer might have trouble failing.

As long as they share the same fate as Saddam, I have no problem with that.

Here's one lawyer who I'm sure would love to defend Hussein. In fact, he probably has some arguement tucked away claiming that it was George W. Bush who was guilty of everything that Hussein is accused of.

don't say that: that would be a very bad thing. Cochrane is good at his job.

Saddam has billions tucked away. What self-respecting lawyer wouldn't want to represent that potential payday?

Good point. But how about if we make it a bit more interesting. The attorney(s) chosen to represent Mr. Hussein also has to share in his fate.
