The Clintons made a campaign appearance for Oscar the Grouch in his city council seat race. Calling in all his chips, Oscar's long-standing support of the Clintons finally paid off in their first-ever endorsement of a frizzy-headed muppet. The race is a close one against incumbent Sully the Pipefitter.

Engaged in questions about the candidate, Bill Clinton said, "The Grouch was sifting through piles of debris on 9-11. He cares."

"You didn't see Bush doing that," growled Mrs. Clinton. "He clearly doesn't care."

Grinning as only Oscar can, the green-headed goblin took advantage of all opportunities to appear in front of cameras with the Clintons. Beaming as he placed both paws around the New York residents, he was hear to exclaim, "I LOVE TRASH!"
