The government has never been this proactive on homeland defense, and for them to be doing so on Christmas is rather troubling.

It's like we're in the middle of Tom Clancy plot, only the type is in white ink. We can't see anything.

This is the first time I've heard of "disaster teams" at the ready. Anyone else have more on this?

I'm quite concerned with what we haven't been told yet. Seems like everyday we learn a tad more. With all the nuke threat stuff we've been reading about. Who knows

Two assasination attempts on Pakistan's Musharraf (one today) and a surprise deal by him yesterday with "anti-American Islamic opposition" to give up control of Pak's army by end of 2004 (read NUKES) leaves me convinced Musharraf is very weak right now. I don't think the extremists can wait for the end of 2004, and we should execute that plan we have to secure the weapons, if they are still there.

Could this even tie in?

How would you all like to be under these threats with Howard Dean in charge?

It seems really unlikely that he could be right now but we have conservatives jumping off the Bush ship in large groups so who knows.

It's something they should think about.

Besides the contingency teams, Homeland Security officials have stepped up their vigilance in searching for evidence of a biological attack.

The agency previously modified air pollution monitoring equipment in 30 cities to pick up any biological agents and provide test results in 12-to-24 hours.

Raining like crazy in Los Angeles for the past 24 hours.

Bad weather for any bio, chem, or radiological attack.

Merry Christmas

I agree...this sounds seriouso. Damn, this is the first Christmas I have had off in years. A day or two to kick back relax at home, listening to Mr. C4E and his brother in the home studio lay down some tracks for the song I wrote, eggnog aplenty, some home heating and serving for Christmas dinner, pumpkin pie and whipped cream. Just damn. Now I got to worry about some muslim religious zealots trying to ruin my day. I must say, I couldn't be better protected than by Mr. C4E and his brother.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE

Having read through this thread it seems like you all think the apocalypse is near. For the most part, I would not want any of you with me in a fox hole engaged in a dog fight. Having attained that notion, it seems that indeed the terrorist have won. I think you all need to take a deep breathe and be certain (and thankful) that our gov't is doing everything possible to defend and defeat terrorism. Those measures require hard times and diligance. We are not, and shall not, ever again take anything for granted. And that is exactly the kinds of measures we are seeing today.

French investigators questioned seven men pointed out by U.S. intelligence but found no evidence they planned to use a Los Angeles-bound jet to launch terror attacks against the United States, French authorities said Thursday.

please allow these scumbags to board planes for New York. There are many there who would like to give them the proper welcome.

It's hard to know what to think about terrorist threats, going to level orange, etc. I have a cousin who has been with the Phoenix PD for many years, works on many projects with the FBI (mainly wiretapping) and he told me that he and his family have done nothing to prepare for the possibility of a terrorist attack. He said it was virtually impossible to taint our water supply and was so nonchalant about the whole topic that it made me wonder if I should pour out all my bottles of water! :O)

The threats are sounding increasingly serious and credible. It is quite possible that we are on the brink of another major terrorist attack, although I truly hope that our military, law enforcement, and homeland security personnel are successful in their attempts to stop such evil things from happening. My best wishes go out to everyone in the FR community--let's pray that these alerts are just that, alerts, and nothing more.

Stay safe.

Well, well. Interesting thread, other than the dog fight in the fox hole.

I have had the feeling for some time that something might come down this fall or winter. No question that the administration views the threat as serious and imminent.

I'm glad to be out of the city over the holidays, but when it's time to go back to work I'll go back. I went to work on 9/11. In fact I realized afterwards that I took one of the last subway trains north before the first tower fell on one of the subway stations I went through at Cortlandt Street. Luck of the draw. I'm not going to quit my work out of worry.
