US mad cow meat may have been eaten-state official

SEATTLE, Dec 23 (Reuters) - Meat from a cow with the deadly mad cow disease may have already been eaten, possibly in the form of hamburger, Washington State Deputy Director of Agriculture Bill Brookerson said on Tuesday.

Asked at a press conference if it was possible that the meat had already been consumed, Brookerson replied: "It's possible."

"I doubt this will be nothing more than a scare, from what I have read so far, there is little chance this will result in anything more than a quarenteen of that particular farm."

Interesting - another article states that the cow that tested positive was already being treated as ill and was tested as a precaution....I know I jsut read this this afternoon right here on FR.....

As noted below, the meat was sent to an Oregon distributor as well as "Interstate Meat", so it certainly doesn't end in Washington State:

"Federal authorities believe the cow was deboned at Midway Meats, before its flesh was sent to two other facilities: Willamette Valley Meats in Portland, Ore., and Interstate Meat in Federal Way, Wash. It was not immediately clear where the animal was slaughtered."

being from Eastern Washington, I would like to know where those companies sold their meat, and under what name?

I think that the processing and packaging plants are in Oregon. I suspect the number of labels will be substantial based on pictures of an Oregon plant.
