You know, the Red China bit is wearing thin already, and you've only used it twice that I have seen.
People are entitled to their outrage at this decision. When we actually USE a horsewhip on a juror, then you can properly rebuke us.

So let me get this straight... This Islamofascist Terrorist Sniper will be going into a Federal Penetentiary where he will be protected as a Muslim hero and encouraged to recruit and train more domestic insurgents. Then, in 10 years, a Leftist judge responding to a lawsuit by Erwin Chemurinsky on behalf of the ACLU, will set him free.
Another brilliant jury performance.

"In VA is the jury recommendation binding or can the judge overrule it and impose the death sentence? (Sorry if this was addressed in a prior post)."
Someone said he can rule it down to LIP but not up to the DP.

I am disappointed and hope this will be corrected in another trial.
His youth, upbringing and mentoring would have perhaps softened my heart but for his enthusiasm.
I believe he is a danger to his jailers and other inmates. His crimes deserve the death penalty.

Will Alabama do? If we whispered to the Auburn Alumni that he secretly works for the NCAA and hated Shug Jordan and to the Bama folks that he roots for Auburn and hated Bear Bryant....
Yeah....that'll do.

Anyway, they keep saying "Life without parole"... I guess this is true but is that punishment enough for his reign of terror, death and murder?
You know the little punk will find a "husband" in prison and live happily ever after with cable TV, three squares a day and his loving honey! BARF He will probably get a free college education and the best medical care, all paid for by you and me while he lives to a ripe old age!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!

but 1 juror thowing a wrench into the 11 doesnt seem right. The independant, free, fully informed jury is our last, best peaceful defense against domestic tyranny. One juror can prevent a grave injustice. It's not perfect, and it sometimes renders results I disagree with, but the alternatives are worse.
I don't agree with these folks' decision, but I have walked a mile or two in their moccasins. You'll hear no second guessing from this corner.

$200,000 fine.. what's the point of a fine in a case like this, they must know he'll never be able to pay it.

Family members of some victims are blasting (in a gentle fashion) the jury verdict.

Yup.. Send him to Bama Yeah, but I bet that if he gets the death penalty there, that sentence will be carried after his sentence in Virginia is complete...
I'm not a legal beagle but I think what happens is he gets extradited for trial. Then, for assumptions sake, let's say he gets the DP.
He would then go throught all his appeals and when that was all exhausted and his time comes, he gets to go meet alluh.
Maybe some legal authority can chime in.

I just read that about half of Virginians don't consider themselves to be Southerners. Just the Yuppies in the North. I'm surrounded by 'em....

That is correct. The glorious 9 in Washington have held that only a jury, not a judge, can award the death penalty.

I appreciate Your view. But what of the tyranny of one juror negating the decision of 11? Oh well, He will get his in another trial or in the pen.
