GE Turns Out the Light on Paul Harvey

(CNSNews.com) - General Electric, in response to Muslim complaints, has decided to pull its lighting advertisements from Paul Harvey's syndicated radio show, at least for the time being.

On Dec. 4, the 84-year-old Harvey was describing cockfighting in Iraq when he made the following comment on-air: "Add to the thirst for blood a religion which encourages killing, and it is entirely understandable if Americans came to this bloody party unprepared."

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Muslim civil rights group, objected to the phrase "a religion which encourages killing," and it demanded an apology.

About a week later, Harvey issued a statement through a fill-in host. He didn't apologize, but he did say that Islam is a "religion of peace."

On Monday, CAIR distributed an e-mail that General Electric's Corporate Feedback Team sent to a Muslim who complained about Harvey's remark.

"Thank you for your recent inquiry on ge.com," the email read.

"We have received your E-mail about the comments of Paul Harvey on December 4, 2003. GE certainly doesn't endorse the comment and regrets any offense that it may have caused. While we look into the matter further, we have pulled GE's advertisements from Mr. Harvey's show. We appreciate voicing your concerns to us."

A GE spokesman was quoted as saying that the company hasn't yet decided whether to resume its advertising on Harvey's syndicated radio show.

I can live without GE but if Cornhuskers Lotion becomes P.C., I'm gonna be really chapped.

Or else WHAT? What would they have done next, Hmmm? GE, incorrectly I might say, has given that Muslim civil rights group, CAIR, WAAAAY too much credit. Just like the Environmentalist Whacko's and Jesse HiJackson, if you make enough noise, you can have your way. What a sorry world we live in, when one of the biggest companies on earth succumbs to that P.C. nonsense. There is no way any protest against GE could've/would've been successful. First off how many muslims are in the USA that even know CAIR exists? Think about it, how many products does GE make, that you have relied on(w/ out thinking about what company made it) for your whole life? I haven't heard P.H. for years, but I'm glad he didn't apologize anad I'm sorry he was coerced into saying it is a 'religion of peace'. How many muslims have come out against this Jihad, OBL has begun against all who are not Muslim? One wonders.

1st the Station Manager kicked Congressman BOB DORNAN's national talk radio show off of KPLS 'Radio on the Right' simply because he doesn't like the man and then...

GEORGE PUTNAM is also kicked off the air as KPLS is sold out from under him.

The last time I called into PUTNAM he was very nice, giving me all the time I needed to promote the candidacy of Garden Grove City Councilman VAN TRAN who will be the 1st Vietnamese-American to be elected to a State Legislature in American History.

Global companies will have no backbone.

"Merchants have no country. The mere spot they stand on does not constitute so strong an attachment as that from which they draw their gains."

--Thomas Jefferson to Horatio G. Spafford, 1814. ME 14:119

Owing no allegience to the United States of America, modern transnational corporatists view the American Middle Class as merely a market to be plundered and a workforce to suppress. Similarly, they also view domestic industries as competition that must also be beaten down into submission. To this end, they leave intact the federal regulatory bureaucracy which economicly shackles our own endeavors, while undermining our efforts with importation of foreign goods and laborers. And they care little of the consequences to our government's Treasury, as long as they can manipulate policy to minimize their own tax obligation for the debt.

"I hope we shall... crush in its birth the aristocracy of our moneyed corporations, which dare already to challenge our government to a trial of strength and bid defiance to the laws of our country."

--Thomas Jefferson to George Logan, 1816. FE 10:69

What is wrong with the SciFi Channel (other than the actual SciFi drivel, which I happen to enjoy)?

It's about to be co-owned by GE, with GE having full effective control.

You're right in an overall sense, but I quit buying GE branded consumer products years ago anyway. My new range was broken on delivery, and was subsequently repaired twice more, their VCR died after 13 months, the dishwasher pump crapped out after two years - these are problems I haven't had with Maytag, Whirlpool, Sylvania, et al.

For what it's worth, a lot of GE-branded appliances these days are GE in name only. They just sell other companies the right to slap a GE logo on their own stuff.

Of course, if it's crap, it's crap, but once this Paul Harvey thing gets straightened out, if ever, make sure you determine the actual manufacturer of a given "GE" appliance before blaming GE.

Yeah, I know GE shouldn't be licensing their logo to to plastered all over substandard products in the first place, but at least GE actually still employs Americans in a lot of fields, so we shouldn't give them blanket condemnations, just partial ones.
