WASHINGTON -- Thousands of Hmong war refugees stuck in Thailand now can seek resettlement in the United States, in a diplomatic reversal welcomed within the Central Valley's sizable Hmong community.
The State Department's shift means an estimated 15,000 Hmong long ensconced at a Buddhist temple soon can start applying for U.S. entry. A good number are likely to end up in California and Minnesota, both magnets for Hmong refugees.

The Hmong gangs started forming in St. Paul and Ramsey County, Minnesota, in the mid-1980s.
My brother left Oklahoma to earn his masters degree in plant biology at the
St. Paul campus of The University of Minnesota in the very late 1980s.
He often related example of the insane "political correctness" of the place.
BUT...he was shocked at the reaction of some of his colleagues at one news story.
A policeman (or highway patrolman) had a tussle with two Hmong gnng members. I guess it was
violent enough (or the gang members pulled guns)...and the peace officer managed to
kill both of the gang members with ONE round from his shotgun.
While my brother is your usual law-and-order Okie, he was suprised at the
glee his otherwise politically-correct colleagues expressed at
"the way that cop nailed those gooks!".

Reminds me of a Hmong classmate (in his early 20's) in a Business English class at the university a couple of years ago. The kids in the class had a rather snooty attitude towards him & snickered at his halting English writing skills. When the prof revealed that the Hmong spoke 6 other languages, the only sounds you could hear was that of jawbones hitting the tile.

Ahh, and just why do we want these people in the US?
For the same reason we owe the Kurds a chunk of Iraq.
History. It's not just for lunkheads.

...Because Little ELIAN now sits in a corner of CASTRO's Communist Cuba...
...75,000 Florida Cuban-Americans switched from voting Democrat, like they did in 1996, to voting for BUSH in Election Year 2000.
...This, plus NADER taking 3% of the National Vote away from GORE in 2000 gave us all a real Commander-in-Chief BUSH in Time of War...

GOD is GOOD.

Ahh, and just why do we want these people in the US? There ain't room for the whole world in the US.
Because they put their butts on the line on behalf of the U.S. and against the communists. That's why. It'll be good to have more people in the U.S. who understand something about committment to the point of risking life.

The US is now around 300 million people. Are we better off now then when there were only 200 million? I don't thing so!
Certainly not as far as spelling goes. But, yes, a population of 300 million provides for a better economy that 200 million, unless you're one of those poor souls who believe that if we got rid of 100 million it would mean an increase of 1/3 in the number of jobs available for the remaining 200 million.

Because we owe them. The US cut out and abandoned them after they "assisted the U.S. effort during the Vietnam War."
We did the same to the Vietnamese, the Cambodians, and Laotians. Do they all get a ticket too? What will it take to finally pay off this debt?

This is great news. I think we owe asylum to the Hmong. Many died supporting our military and the CIA. The last thing this country needs is to abandon more allies. I'm shocked the State Dept. reversed itself...again, good news for the US and our Hmong allies.
