I'm not getting a fear-based mentality where I live. People have decided to stay with their program and move on, chatter or not.

Code red will be a "lockdown" mode.

Nice thought. Let's pre-empt them. Announce that if they do anything AT ALL we obliterate the region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Why do we have to play DEFENSE all the time in this war? (too busy to read the whole thread today)
Throw in Mecca and medina and it's a great plan. Just let the mohammedans know that we will obliterate their holy places if we are attacked. Mecca - nuked. Medina - Nuked. Dome of the rock - Demolished to make way for the third temple.
The three holiest places in islam either glowing or in enemy hands right before their eyes. And all because some moslem followed the koran

They're talking about the ability to look in the "rear view mirror" and see what transpired before 9.11. Hindsight is 20:20.

Uhhmm....so they DID know? Welcome to FR slimeball.
How many of you signed up with new names this time?

The killing of collateral innocents is not as accepted these days as it was 60 years ago. We can't slaughter 500 to kill 20 or 30. As Israel has learned, world opinion matters. What's your alternative?
As poll after poll demonstrates clearly, 70-90% of all muslims support terrorism and the destruction of Israel.
Destroy their countries' ability to spend any time and effort even contemplating tacit support of terrorism.
Announce ahead of time which square mile of their capital is to be wiped out after each major terrorist event. Evacuate people from that area. Or not.
Their choice.
World opinion can bite me.

This alert has me on edge also. I sense real concern by the Bush Administration this time around and I believe they have good reason to raise the terrorist alert this time. Especially being so close to Christmas, one of the busiest times of the year for travel and commerce - they wouldn't do this lightly.
I also find Gaddafi's recent willingness to discard his WMD program very suspicious. I get the impression that he knows something major is about to happen and wants to take measures to ensure that he is not included in any U.S. military response. Hence the sudden "williness to cooperate."

Can't we just conclude that Ashcroft's return is just a Code Orange scenario?

maybe we will be the first country in the history of the world to keep people out, not in.... You never heard of the Great Wall of China? How old are you, anyway?

Au contraire. Commercial cargo is indeed screened.

The nukes we have are quite dirty- exploding several of them at the same time would overwhelm the planet with radiation- even if no one strikes back at us. Really? You sound quite knowledgeable. Please provide us with your credentials so we can wet our knickers properly. I suppose you believe that irradiating food creates exploding carrots, too.
Oh, by the way. Welcome to FR. Now start reading. You slept through a lot of classes, it appears.

What's "not good" about bringing these guys home where they can confer? I'd want all my top advisers where they belong.

Didn't the fact that Ascroft was sent for to get back from his vacation a real sobering fact in this article? It certainly was the key point in it for me. Not really. In all likelihood certain threat levels automatically result in corresponding actions. The recall of officials critical to Homeland Security is no doubt one of those actions. Behaviors in response to a threat are generally driven by SOPs as opposed to a specific response to each scenario - that way actions are well-planned before the time of crisis, thus reducing the likelihood of making a series of poorly-reasoned decisions.
To: JennysCool
Look at what you just said there. It was horrible that innocent Germans got killed in World War II. Same as it was horrible innocent Brits got killed by the Germans. In case no one has noticed: this is war.Well, there is a slight difference. We are not at war with Saudi Arabia. That's what makes terrorism what it is. It is the actions of a very small portion of idealists/fundamentalists/nutjobs and not the actions of one nation or people. That's what makes terrorism so hard to combat.
