Great ideas, both of them! There's a multistrip in my laptop case, so I didn't think of that one because its with me (at least when my laptop is).

Ahoy, ye varlets!......there's going to be an old wooden pirate's chest hidden aboard our ship as we Freepaneers sail the route of the Spanish Main in May.

There are prizes galore in that chest...... prizes donated by generous FReepbooters and which will be awarded by lot to our group's cruisers all throughout the voyage.

No doubloons, no pieces of eight, no beads, just some really groovy King's treasures that you would walk the plank for.

Phone Wanda tomorrow at toll-free 1-800-890-7583 and make your reservation. You don't want to miss out on all the fun and pirate booty as we sail under the flag of the Jolly FReeper!

Leni,
Do you think you can talk Jim Rob into giving us a link to FReeps Ahoy on the opening page of Free Republic? I think a lot of potential "sailing maties" are not finding the thread.

My Aunt Elaine and cousin Cindy will be going along this year again afterall, I think they booked this week. Cindy had a heck of a time navigating to the cruise thread, not being very familiar with the Free Republic site. A link upfront would help greatly!

Thanks, Apple. Your point is very well taken. I'll consult with our cruise webmaster and we'll see what's possible.

THE REMARKABLE LID0 RESTAURANT

The designers of the Lido on the new H/A ship, Zuiderdam, have elevated cruise breakfast and lunch room designs to a new level.

The way the Lido is arranged makes eating a pleasure. There are a number of stations for various food items so that you never have long lines.

At breakfast, the Lido serves the usual panoply of hearty items, cereals, hot oatmeal, bacon, really delicious plump pork sausages, plus fresh orange juice, waffles, french toast and omelets made to your order. It also has four egg stations that serve your eggs anyway you want them.....and there's very little waiting for your eggs.

These same egg stations are converted for lunch. One station becomes a pasta and pizza section which serves different pastas and sauces each day. Also roasted veggies, fettuccine, garlic bread and two kinds of delicious pizza.

A second station serves an assortment of Oriental wok dishes and sushi. The station chef continuously stirs up new batches of everything before your eyes.

The third station becomes a Deli. Create your own sandwiches with varieties of deli meats and cheeses and different kinds of freshly-baked crusty breads and rolls. You can also get the steaming soup-of-the-day here.

The fourth station has every conceivable type of salads, dressings and veggies.

But that's not all. There's a regular buffet line, also. Two or three carving items every day.....lamb, veal....a prime rib......

Rotisserie chickens come right off the spit and are carved just for you. Then there's all sorts of special fish and meat items with all the trimmings as you push your tray down the buffet line.

The desserts are to die for. Lucious tortes, pies, tarts, you name it. About a dozen selections.

Next to the desserts is an ice cream bar. Cones, sundaes, cookies. All kinds of toppings, fresh fruit, sauces, liquers, fresh whipping cream, nuts, cherries, sprinkles, heaven.

Just outside the Lido, on the deck, are two more food stations. One serves sizzling grilled hamburgers and really tasty hot dogs with all the trimmings plus cole slaw, potatoe salad, saurkraut, pickles and all that good stuff.

The other station serves a variety of Mexican lunch treats. Ole!

Then there's Holland/America's famous specialty every day.....chafing dishes of homemade, raisiny, rich bread pudding next to a big pot of hot vanilla custard sauce to ladle over the pudding.

For taste, quality and variety of food, the Zuiderdam's Lido restaurant is probably the finest breakfast/lunch venue of any ships plying the Caribbean.

TIP

Fill your tray first with fruits, cold stuff, rolls, butter, and your coffee or tea. Drop this off at your table. Then go get your eggs and other hot items.

BTW, H/A's homemade breads, rolls, breakfast pastries and baked desserts are soooo delicious. I know this from personal experience on previous cruises. The Rotterdam Dutch, the Amsterdam Dutch and the Zuiderdam Dutch sure know how to make dam good bakery!

Well, I just booked my airfare from San Diego to Ft. Lauderdale. Most airlines have now released discounted flights through the 11th of June. The cheapest one I found was $203 rt/pp with travel allowed on Tue/Wed/Sat, I think, and is available on most airlines.
