" some here are trying to insinuate that
Schofield is some kind of heretical nutcase. "

You should read the article that Zipporah linked. It was quite a shocker to me.

I hosted one of the 40-day Bible studies at my home and my take on it was 180 degrees from yours. The whole thrust of the study was discerning God's will for our lives so that we can better serve Him. It wasn't about me at all but about God.

I have recently begun reading the bookn at the urging of my daughter. (who is a youth minister and decidely not "new age")

I haven't seen any of that which has been charged so far. I'll read it very carefully and decide for myself before I agree or disagree with the other poster.

My wife has expressed an interest in the book because some of her (deeply devoted to Christ) friends have heartily recommended it to her. I bought it for her as a gift, and will read it with her next month.

Good luck with it, I hope it helps you along in your faith journey. Merry Christmas.

Cool. Thanks!

Thanks, but I mispoke. I should have said ...like a fir tree. God didn't say he was a fir tree.

Oh my! The Scofield Standard Reference Bible I use is filled with my marginal notes. Am I also in peril? ... Here's one particular section to which I've linked many other verses:

1TH 4:13 Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. 14 We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore encourage each other with these words.

Sure sounds like a Rapture to me! This thread reminds me of the chiding I received last Christmas at FR, when I had the audacity to assert that Mary was not raped by God, that Mary had the free will to refuse but to our great blessing she volunteered to receive The Christ, that God knew her heart before He sent the Angel to her ... God Bless the Mother of Christ for she chose Life, that we may have eternal blessing through her beatification (is that the right word?... squabbling sows (sews) so much confusion ...)

Thanks.

... Immaculate Conception ...

Figured I'd throw in a bit of fun -- "Immaculate Conception" refers not to Jesus' being born without sin by a virgin, but to Mary's supposedly being born without sin. That's according to Roman Catholic doctrine....

;-)

I figured this thread is so filled with ad hominem attacks and arguments about relatively trifling doctrinal points, so it seemed natural to introduce a bit of slightly-off-topic, yet true, information....

If you were referring to me, I was not 'name calling'.. if you are saying so, then you've misread what I've posted. There are heretical nuts (your phrase) out there ...always have been.. scripture tells us to beware of 'every wind of doctrine' .. and when interpertation supercedes 2,000 years of doctrine, it's time to examine that interpertation throughly and prayerfully..
