There will always be the Church - and until the end, there will always be the anti-Church (those who call themselves Christians, but deny the power of thereof).
To: nickcarraway
Amen to that.

I find myself thinking, the fact that this editorial exists in a newspaper, in and of itself proves the author is probably right.
Thank God.

The new century will see a new Christianity which in fact is the old one. And a very different Christmas. Less sugary, but far more real. And it's about time. I sure hope so.

It is interesting that it appears in a Canadian paper.. I only wish that Christians would turn from Scofield and return to the Spirit's leading.

INTREP - SECULARIZATION OF AMERICA

And....maybe the end will be known when we can freely put up the Nativity, celebrate it, and NOT be chastised for it.

When the persecution comes to America, we will probably see a repeat of what occurred in Russia. When Communism eliminated its political enemies, it turned on the churches. With persecution, the average church went from 300 to 15, a 95% falling away.

I heard a sermon on the symbols of Christmas last night, and it's interesting. All the things we think of as "secular" or even "pagan" were all adopted by CHRISTIANS first:
The Christmas tree originated in Sweden several hundred years ago as a symbol of Christ's enduring love (the greenness) when all around us is dying. Indeed, the triangular shape of the evergreen was symbolic to these Christians of the Trinity.
Holly took the green symbolism of the tree and added red fruit, which was symbolic of Jesus' blood. The red and green colors of Christmas ARE Christian!
Martin Luther was the first to hang "lights" on a tree, using candles (imagine that with fire departments today!)
Of course, "Santa Claus" was a real Christian, St. Nicholas of Turkey, who wore a red robe and distributed food and gifts to the poor.
And earlier on FR we have seen an article that showed that the Romans "stole" the December 25 date from Christians long after Christians had been celebrating it as the presumed birthdate of Jesus, contrary to the myth that later Christians took a "pagan" holiday and grafted it in their practices.
Merry Christmas!

Another GREAT, MUST READ post by Nick. Thanks!
The after-effect of 9-11 has been a general decline in the credibility of what's called "post-modernism," the belief there are no such things as moral truths. You have your moral truths, I have mine and no version whatever can claim to be really true. This means that the people who deliberately murdered 3,000 innocent civilians had just as good a claim to be right as those who thought otherwise. Nobody, apart perhaps from professors of "ethics," can swallow that line any more, and this has thrown the whole post-modern phenomenon into doubt.

The battle of good against evil is enjoined in full. Christianity is at war with Islam ["the spirit of anti-christ now come into the world"]. Satan knows his time is short.
Believe it or not. Hide your head in the sand and deny it if you will, but the goal of Islam is to eliminate all Jews completely, drive Israel into the sea. [this edict has never been revoked], and to convert to Islam or kill all Christians [better known to Musliims as "worshippers of the cross"] and other infidels.
Fence-sitters will have to get off the fence and join sides. You will be either for the true God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob...the God and father of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Or, you will be for the moon god [genie] Allah and his false prophet Mohammad.
Choose now whom you shall serve. The tribulation has already begun, though we are only in the "birth pang" stage.

It was rarely acknowledged that all this unrelieved sweetness and light was .......making us sick to our stomach and causing clouding of the brain due to spiritual diabetes.
I see evidence in my small community and even in my small life that people are seeking out and returning to traditional churches and away from "lite" versions like Unity and Science of Mind. Really, those places are interesting and even well-intentioned, but after attending for a few Sundays, one must ask, "Where's the beef."
