Yeah, I trust these people to keep me safe from terrorists. When I go to Dunkin' Donuts.

Yeah, and I suppose they were heading for doughnuts at Windows on the World on 911 when 60 of them lost their lives.

BTW, The Port Authority Police Deprtment alone lost 37 officers on 911 -- that's 3% of their force. The NYPD lost 23 others.

You seem unfamiliar with how police forces are made up of -- people -- some who are bad and many who are good.

do you think? that some of the people on this site could be cops????

The ones with no info on their profiles.

The ones who have never been to a freep.

The ones who won't answer if you ask what they will do if the cops show up to confiscate their guns.

If you think cops are anything better than an armed version of the same people that populate public school bureaucracies dressed in itchy blue polyester, topping up their high school steroid use with a diet of donuts...

Cops USED to be conservatives. Actually, so did school teachers. But that was very very long ago.

Your stereotypical description of law enforcement is not appreciated and not appropriate.

No one will deny that some law enforcement individuals are not well suited for their jobs. But you know what, some doctors are not well suited for their jobs either. It happens in every profession.

I think this administration has done a better job than anyone could possibly do under such difficult circumstances.

Are you aware that the History Channel runs shows called "Military Blunders in History"? Most of them detail things we did WRONG in WWII. It's not a slam at our military, but rather a look back in history so we can learn from it.

This is a new kind of war. This is a learning experience for law enforcement and an administration that is trying its level best to protect the American citizenry.

Really, your comments are not helpful or appreciated, especially for those of us with family in the immediate NYC area that has seen such devastation in the past. They/we are barely past the horror of 9/11 and now, during a blessed holiday season, are contemplating other similar horrors.

Is there a big ball game up the east coast in the next week?

We've got bowl games all over the nation starting late in the week and pretty much daily until the National Championship in New Orleans (Sugar Bowl) on the 4th of January. The weekend after New Year's is also the beginning of the NFL Playoffs.

We just walked in the door less than an hour ago, after watching football with my parents, and knew nothing of any of this. It was a shock to turn on the television and feel the tension and know something big was going on.

It took a few minutes to figure out what, and having put it together with the trucker alert in SC, and having so much of my family here, and the rest in NYC, is very disquieting.

I think a glass of wine is called for.

Funny you should bring up boats. If I were a terrorist I could think of a number of things to do with a boat.

Blow up Glen Canyon Dam. Cruise into the center of Chicago and detonate a dirty bomb. Destroy some bridges on the Mississippi...an endless number of things.

Why do you suppose it is that private pilots in their little 1500 lb. light aircraft are now suffering draconian restrictions on their right to fly, but boaters can go on about their business normally?

Oh, I forgot, pilots are a tiny minority of voters. What do we care about those rich playboys anyway?

NO,I don't "got it" as you suggest BECAUSE I am one of many, many people who could use specifics since our jobs include controlling who has access to dangerous substances in quantity.(But substances which are necessary to modern commerce.)

As the mother of a police officer I really resent your "doughnut munching goons" comment.

There are some lousy cops just as there are some lousy lawyers, doctors and clergy.

Riddle me this, Batgirl: What is the solution rate for burglaries in your town? How about after factoring in the reporting rate?

What does that tell you about the likelihood of police using information not available to the public to do anything useful - about anything, much less a terror threat?

Better to just tell the people.

Good post about your dad. Those who put all policemen in the same category as the few bad ones, are as bad as the racists and sexists.

I missed the announcement - a graduation at the U of HI!

I would have been very angry and frustrated to have to read thru the garbage that has been posted. I stopped at 2hundredsomething. Went to the last posts.

This is very serious, we should always be on alert and just more so at this time. This is our responsibility!!!

We spent the 90's ignoring all kinds of warnings. Not any more!

I went to 'breaking news' to receive valuable information and came up empty. Is this alert only for NYC. If that is what is being reported I think thats a mistake.

Just heard FoxNews call me joe blow shopper!!!

Are there footballl games on Christmas day?

The Hawaii Bowl is at 8P ET on ESPN; but the biggest sporting event on Christmas day in terms of television audience is the NBA tripleheader on ESPN & ABC: Cleveland at Orlando at 2:30 ET, Dallas at Sacramento at 6P ET and Houston at the LA Lakers at 8:30P ET.

You owe some people apologies. Growing up might be good for you too. Cynicism is the refuge of people who are afraid they cannot make it on their own in life, thus they get angry and cynical about those they would depend on. When I see a cop, a fireman, a doctor, an emergency worker, I thank God for them and salute them in my heart.
