Cynicism is the refuge of people who are afraid they cannot make it on their own in life, thus they get angry and cynical about those they would depend on. When I see a cop, a fireman, a doctor, an emergency worker, I thank God for them and salute them in my heart.

you are correct, but I will say this being in NY: the question really is what tasks are assigned to our police officers. What this alert will do in NYC, is get these folks off of traffic ticket duty, and onto something more proactive. and that's a good thing.
