The one thing I know about going "orange" is that at SeaTac Airport, the freakin' airport drive gets a security check...meaning LONGER lines to get in than the ones we have to deal with as a part of Christmas.

As an airport shuttle driver, that's gonna mean a big possibility for disaster. This Tuesday, they're expecting 110,000 PLUS going through the airport.

No, I'm not whining, since I know that they wouldn't go orange if they didn't have a good reason to. This is just a personal lament over what's NOW going to be next-to-intolerable working conditions for my job this week.

*sigh* At least I have a job...

What's with the Batgirl crap? Really, you are not being helpful with your continuing demeaning comments about policemen and people who do not agree with your position.

everything points to fuel trucks in my opinion, they want fuel trucks. just like with 9/11, they have to hijack the weapons they use. they don't have their own weapons here, they have to obtain them somehow from what is available, what they can hijack.

Only a small percentage of publicv school teachers are guilty of real malfeasance.

It is a motherhood that teachers are "good people" and "hard working."

Yet the cost of public schools keeps going up, and the effectiveness keeps going down. Police are on the same tends.

Until both the police and the public school employees give up their corrupt unions and accept in-depth reform that includes a lot of downsizing, things will not improve.

So tell me, why are public schools fair game for scorn, and police are not, by your lights, anyway?

Good point about ignoring the warnings in the 90's. Now we're not ignoring them and we have people complaining!

I do not get it, and you know what, with the kind of mindset so many Freepers are showing on this thread, I don't want to get it. They're like the fringe left - they've lost their collective minds.

What's the matter, did you have a burglary unsolved and you are bent out of shape about it?

Burglaries are not terrorism. Burglaries are not noted in the "chatter" that is montored electronically. FBI, CIA, and foreign intelligence services are not involved in solving burglaries.

Furthermore, burglaries are notoriously hard to solve if there is no eyewitness, no fingerprints, and no evidence left at the scene.

So take a flying leap, eno. If you think all of this is silly, then get off the thread.

Houston at LA,,,GB's hometown and LA home of sin,,looks like a choice. And Orlando? Aren't there terrorists down in Orlando? Seems like there was alot of Fla visits of those 911 guys.

you are correct, but I will say this being in NY: the question really is what tasks are assigned to our police officers. What this alert will do in NYC, is get these folks off of traffic ticket duty, and onto something more proactive. and that's a good thing.

Do they still have "strategic" parking spaces blocked off? Because, you know, a car bomb spaced 10' further away won't do nearly the amount of damage.

At least I have a job

I hear that loud and clear.

For someone with a handle like "Miss Marple" you should, perhaps, but a clue about how often police take fingerprints at a burglary. Care to take a guess at the percentage?

Ditto your #783. That's why there have been these specific trucker alerts in SC and NC, I think.

You won't find me making fun of either public school teachers OR LE.

The difference if I did make fun of public school teachers, however, is that they help shape minds, but don't typically save lives, which our LE officers do all the time.

Sorry you have such a low opinion of your fellow people. It must be difficult to be you.

I think you are on to something, AQ would rather succeed in a "small" location, then fail in NY or DC. This next attack, if there is one, might be at softer targets in smaller locales.

Go pound sand. The whole point is that burglaries are not terrorism.

In eno's defense I did know of ONE jack-booted (literally) donut eater in ONE of several police agencies I worked with years ago.I HAVE noticed a big increase in the "us vs. civilians" attitude which I blame on the academies as the young officer fresh out of training is the one who makes aggressive mistakes

But a LOT of useful info gets shared "off the record and radios" wherever cops meet for meals. And cops do get lunch like other workers.

Perhaps eno has seen too many Hollywood cop shows? And the same may be true for some officers.

This is not a thread about schools or crime,,you owe apologies. Get it over with or leave.

This is a thread about the relative competency of the police compared with an informed public.

The poor (and I mean REALLY REALLY REALLY POOR) performance of police in their core job tasks indicates they would perform even more poorly in extraordinary situations.

Dear Pubbie,

Forget Mr. Ridge. This clymer didn't even notice when Ad Rendell and the Daley boy stole his whole state for Al Gore.

Sorry. Man's an idiot. Got his present post because Bush figured he could do the least harm to the party as a figurehead. Next job: Ambassador to Ouagadougou.

Oh, did I mention the man's an idiot?
