I'm making fun of the government behemoth which is supposed to make us safe

What's the use of the 2nd amendment then? (Rhetorical question)

Listening to are scanner it seems in our lil community that the cops solve cases by accident a lot...they get called to reports of domestic fighting or possible drunk leaving home and mates turning each other in and ironically the garage is full of stolen goods or a meth lab is in the home ect...Dumb criminals. A lot of bad guys make driving mistakes that get them pulled over. Or like this morning a sex offender on parole went to a couples home and stood out in the street yelling threats so the whole neighborhood could hear. Then during a thundestorm a woman called in to report gunshots and bright flashes.

Or you have the worried wife calling in for an overdue hubby coming home from a long road trip and the cops usually locate his rig at the local tavern having a cold one before heading through the door at home.

Pretty funny stuff.

What got me was Tom Ridge's statement that specific info was given to those that could do something about it.If ha has some specific info I think he could/should share it with the American people. If everyone knew what to look for everyday Joe American might stop a terrorist attack also.

Tom Ridge is just following the highly successful formula used by Chief Moose. Some jackboot licker here said "get over it" about not getting usable information. He should tell that to the families of the last couple of people shot by Mohammed and Malvo. They would probably love to hear about how they should "get over it."

The 2nd Amendment - to steal a phrase from Nixon - is "inoperative".

Have you heard why Dubya did not go to Camp David this weekend?

Nope. Your guess is as good as mine...

Fox News Channel

Rita’s sources are telling her what’s being planned is simultaneous coordinated attacks on one particular event.

It's just my guess, but I have a feeling Joe American needs to be on the look out for muslims in boats going for a winter dive.

If I had to guess what that info Ridge shared with LE's.....it was to look out for a truck bomb.

"If your work puts you in key positions, during terror alerts, I sincerely hope your employer is aware of your attitude and beliefs. I would like to think, all citizens, in the employ of agencies the American public must depend upon for vigilance, security, watchfulness, observation, and judgment, take their duties seriously."

Oh,don't you worry about me, my work is such that I'd probably be the FIRST person the terrorist sees/kills BUT the "system" insists all I need do is dial 911 and expressly forbids me or anyone else at the site from being armed NOR are there adequate remote controlled physical barriers. And most non-government sites are the same in this regard.

The same situation existed in 1986 when the standing orders at a power plant were not to permit entry by any armed person but no weapons were allowed to stop such intruders. Instead the guard(or a witness to his/her demise) was supposed to call inside corporate supervision who would then go to the site weapons locker and get what was needed !

My gripes are that too many people are put in untenable positions or simply set up as tripwires;because too many in authority are reluctant to spend more on selection, TRAINING, and yes,ARMING those most likely to have first contact.

Current policies result in incidents like the trucking company murders in Cincinnati, Ohio where the unarmed security and unlocked entry gates and doors didn't even slow the killer.

I would expect each industry/field to get warnings with some specific useful info.

A huge loss of U.S. military lives was avoided when the guard stopped the speeding car bomb with real bullets a week ago.Granted,STRONG,remote controlled gates and such would be safer in most people's hands.

I tend to agree. Too little information leads to panic or nonchalant attitude. Had Chief Moose, for example, given out more information that he had and sooner, the 2 snipers might have been apprehended much earlier and lives might have been saved. Ridge should be more specific. People can handle it--trust the people; all in all, they did pretty damn good after the 9-11 attacks.

I would like to respectfully ask those who come to this thread to jeer at securitiy, make fun of the alerts and in general treat us as if we are all silly, to leave and go to a humorous thread. This is dead serious, we have people we love who live near places that could be attacked, some of us know people who died in 911. some of us have children and relatives in Iraq. We are serious, we take the threats seriously and we respect law enforcement, homeland security and our President. WOULD THOSE WHO ARE HERE FOR OTHER REASONS JUST GO QUIETLY.

One of those six terrorists worked for Mayor Vera Katz in a security job.

I sometimes wonder if the PNW is safe from terror due to it being the backyard of the louses.
