announcement, nothing furthur
As you said on a previous post and stupid me kept concentrating on the US, and searching for ways to dispel the elevated warning.
Q: With all the talk about going to orange, was there ever any discussion, was the level of chatter ever serious or high enough that you thought of going to red?
RIDGE: When we convened those that we get together and have the discussion about the quality of the information and the kinds of actions we should take, whether or not we go up to orange or whether we go to more specific actions, no. I mean, but, again, I think it's very important to note that ever since 9-11, from the early morning hours when the president meets with the intelligence community and the attorney general and the FBI director and everybody else, there's been a continued focus not only on the war on terror abroad, but the war on terror and its impact in the United States.
Yeah, me too, forgot about that show. Love Ollie North.
And most expats don't get as nervous about U.S. Consular Warden Announcements as you might think (having personally been through a coup d'etat while working abroad). Here's an example:
U.S. expatriates in Saudi Arabia like life on the edge
The Seattle Times Company, Sunday, November 30, 2003
"Every day, there's another warden's message (from the U.S. Embassy), but you get used to it," says Richards, 45, who has lived in five countries and traveled through more than 40. "You adjust." Lured by good pay, tax breaks and a resort-style life inside walled compounds, Americans still flock to a variety of business and technical jobs in Saudi Arabia, despite being prime targets for al-Qaida terrorists seeking to destabilize the ruling monarchy and rid the kingdom of Western influence. ...
"Kalin described expatriates as "a hardy lot." She noted that many of them and the more than 150 U.S. diplomats in Saudi Arabia have held hardship assignments in other countries and are accustomed to life on the edge.
Yep. We are from NY, mainly. My family, basically, thinks they are cultured and I have turned into a rogue, red neck ready to leave for a unibomber cabin any day since I left the northeast.
Never mind the fact that I live in the 5th largest city myself, my husband and I are both educated professionals, we have lived outside of the country, etc.
Why cross the hot dessert and dodge drug dealers and crooked cops, when you fly directly into Logan Airport or cross the bridge into the US at Windsor, Canada. Give us a break, lamebrain.
And who will be the lamebrain then, the Ridge bashers or the Homeland Security Chief who wants to give blanket amnesty to illegal aliens?
And what does this terror alert have to do with Ridge's belief that we probably will have to provide legal worker status to Mexicans entering the country? But since you raise the issue, where do you want Ridge to devote his attention? To terrorists or every Hispanic in this country. Seems you feel a little "putupon" by the brown man. Maybe even more so than the neigbhorhood Jidadist. Get over it.
...Some of the intercepted communications and other intelligence mentions New York, Washington and unspecified cities on the West Coast, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Authorities also are concerned about dams, bridges, nuclear plants, chemical facilities and other public works....
No, get a job and quit whining about the economy.
So basically, it is the same sh**, different threat level rising.
My theory. It's Christmas, there is increased "chatter". Whenever they do this, it seems to result in an attack not happening. So, they keep with it.
Did you ever try to fix something that isn't working and you try some really obscure thing and it works. So, whenever said object breaks you just keep applying technique. That's what this reminds me of.
Right. Get that plane down safely at the next airport no matter what is going on in the cabin.
