Could someone explain to me why we need to Bash the security alert level being raised...Because the amateur comedians have forgotten what it's like to lose 3,000 souls in an instant.
Really, there's nothing more disconcerting than opening up a thread like this and reading the all the moronic attempts at humor... as if we were invincible or something.
Showers, series, hugh... yeah, that's hilarious stuff people.

TERROR ALERT! CODE ORANGE! Michael Jackson has a whole bunch of kids at Neverland again!
Fox actually did a *GONG* News Alert! yesterday, so I looked to see what was so important, and it was the imminent arrival of guests at Neverland ranch for a party being thrown by Michael Jackson!
Good grief!

So what are we supposed to do? fOR STARTERS you can lock and load and CARRY if you have a license or if you have the moral fortitude to carry without one.

I fly EVA Air and notice a fair number of Muslim passengers from Bangkok to Taiwan but few from there to San Francisco. For what it is worth, The pre-boarding inspections are more comprehensive than with US airlines. However, the passengers always applaud after a sucessful landing. (Of course, I have no Idea what they do after an unsucessful landiing :>)

I agree with you. Initially, they were supposed to meet Monday to decide on the appropriate level. I think they must have some very credible information to bump the level up on a Sunday afternoon-malls overflowing with holiday shoppers, etc.

The police should do it - just ask Rep. Charlie Norwood

A complex plan cannot be changed on a whim. Of course it can. It's called "alternate targets."

Instead they give terrorists credit by getting the public worked up. Some idiot being interviewed on FOX right now is doing his best to give terrorists new ideas. The number of households tuned into cable news channels right now is likely less than a million.
"The public" is watching football, and Christmas shopping.

most americans will not even hear about this until either tonight, or for most, tomorrow morning when they flip on the news before or while going to work. if they had wanted to alter shopping behavior this weekend, they would have had to issue the alert thursday or friday.

I don't know about you, but I am getting really tired of people mocking Tom Ridge and Homeland Security. The threat level is being elevated because of reasonable precaution due to chatter indicating that Al Qaeda is planning on striking us here or in our outposts abroad. The same bozo's mocking or complaining about Ridge and the threat level will also be the first ones to scream bloody murder if some terrorist attack does occur. You cant satisfy the eternally lamebrain.

CBS never broke into its game to announce anything, did they?

Statement By U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge December 21 - Today, The United States Government raised the national threat level from an Elevated to High risk of terrorist attack - or from Code Yellow to Code Orange. We know from experience that the increased security that is implemented when we raise the threat level, along with increased vigilance, can help disrupt or deter terrorist attacks.
The U.S. Intelligence Community has received a substantial increase in the volume of threat related intelligence reports. These credible sources suggest the possibility of attacks against the homeland around the holiday season and beyond.
In addition to knowing that homeland security professionals at all levels are working to keep our communities safe, we ask individual Americans to do a few additional things during this time of heightened alert. I have said it before - and I am saying it again - homeland security begins at home. Never has that been more true. Your awareness and vigilance can help tremendously, so please use your common sense and report suspicious packages, vehicles, or activities to local law enforcement.
Finally - no matter your faith or culture - now is the time of year for important celebrations. So, I encourage you to continue with your holiday plans. Gather with your family and friends and enjoy the spirit of this season. There is no doubt that we have a lot to be thankful for - not the least of which the opportunity to live in the greatest country in the world. It is a country that will not be bent by terror. It is a country that will not be broken by fear. But instead, we are a country blessed with a population marked by goodwill and great resolve. We will show the terrorists both this holiday season - goodwill toward our fellow men, readiness and resolve to protect our families and our freedom.

If my city is the target of a bomb, I want to know about it. For you to say the govt should hide it from me says alot about your views on the role of govt. They should hide it from you, of all people.
If it didn't happen, you'd bitch to high heaven.
Just like your bitching now.
