Al-Qaeda "Recruits Bulgarian Students"

2003-12-17

Bulgarians pursuing religious studies at Jordan universities are being lured into al-Qaeda's terrorism network, Bulgarian 24 Chasa daily said Wednesday. According to the article's author, the information came from some Istanbul journalists who were familiar with a special services report on worldwide-spread terrorism.

In 1999, Afghan radical groups prepared a plan for recruiting religious studies scholars from Jordan universities, the newspaper claims. Al-Qaeda is also eyeing youths from Romania, Bosnia, Macedonia and the province of Kosovo, the article says.

Those who develop the perfect skills for enticing new al-Qaeda followers themselves, travel back to their homelands and start "preaching." As for those who are less clever but prove to be fanatically devoted to the group, they leave for Afghanistan to take the lead of fighters' parties, the article explains.

Al-Qaida Plot Revealed in Sarajevo "in Sarajevo something will happen to Americans similar to 9/11" AP/Yahoo ^ | Sat Mar 23,10:48 AM ET | ALEXANDAR S. DRAGICEVIC

Al-Qaida terrorists planned a devastating attack on Americans in Sarajevo after meeting in Bulgaria to identify European targets, a high-ranking Bosnian official said Saturday.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press that intelligence reports on the meeting in Sofia, the Bulgarian capital, prompted a special government session Thursday night to discuss threats against the U.S. Embassy and embassies of European countries. He did not name the countries.

At the Sofia meeting, members of al-Qaida decided that "in Sarajevo something will happen to Americans similar to New York last September," said the official. He did not say when the al-Qaida meeting was held or who attended.

The U.S. Embassy in Bosnia shut down to the public on Wednesday after receiving word of a possible terrorist threat. The embassy closed entirely on Friday.

al-Qaeda has recruited heavily from the Balkan Muslims such as the Bulgarian Turks, Albanians and Bosniacs.

"Parliament supports setting up U.S. military bases" (Bulgaria or Bust)

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "SOFIA, Bulgaria -- An overwhelming majority of legislators on Friday adopted a declaration in support of setting up permanent U.S. military bases in Bulgaria.

The legislature voted 200-3 to endorse the document, which says Bulgaria is ready "to contribute to the efforts of the international community to handle the new threats and challenges for the global security."

Parliament also reaffirmed the country's wish for "wider and deeper strategic partnership and cooperation with the United States as one of the main priorities of Bulgaria's foreign policy."

U.S. officials have suggested they may move troops from bases in Germany to new locations in Eastern Europe. Washington is interested in small, flexible bases, different from those set up to house large numbers of troops during the Cold War."

What good does that do? NATO bases mean protection of Muslims. See Kosovo and Bosnia.

I wonder Destro, if the war on terror has changed...maybe the "international" community is tired of the bombings and threats and is looking at the real enemies (ie AQ and their ilk)...maybe I'm too optimistic, but we'll see.

Bulgaria is 11% Muslim

To an Islamist, that means a majority and the whole country must follow Sharia law.

I see my tax money support Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo and know that it exists to protect a bastion of instability where al-Qaeda can flourish freely.

Nothing to do with our boys overseas. It is the policies which they serve. ALL FOREIGN BASES should be shut down-especially once this war on terror is over. I have lost all respect for our internationalists in Washington.

"al-Qaeda has recruited heavily from the Balkan Muslims such as the Bulgarian Turks, Albanians and Bosniacs."

Of course. Al-Qaeda would want Caucasian Moslem recruits to be better able to blend in with the West. By the way, aren't there a number of Bulgarian Slav Moslems known as Pomaks? AQ is no doubt trying to recruit from them too.

IMO, the Clintons counted the one billion muslims with their trillion$ in oily money and decided our "one year" "investment" in the Balkans would make useful friends of muslims. Remember that the Clintons lead NATO into what was more or less a resumption of the Ottoman invasion of the Balkans, where Europe was rightly saved from islam.

Oops! Our troop deployment has lasted for more than one year; it was just an election year poll driven-number anyway. it takes more time to waste billions and almost no time to degrade training, as was first proven in Bill's pitch for his Nobel Prize. The Clintons so "loath the military" and us.

Dar al-islam is the dogma whereby lands once conquored must remain under the sword or again be conquored by islam. You say that most of the Balkan peoples are not muslim, say perhaps at least 75%-90%? Some "House of islam".

Israel and even Jews don't have a chance when the entire international socialist movement in and parallel with the UN provides safe havens for islamofascists to R&R, train, and deploy for their mischief.

From Israel, the Balkans, to the Iberian Penninsula, islam commands that muslims reconquor lost lands, just as current muslim nations have severe penalties for infedel missionaries and worship.

Until our infedel leaders read and believe what they read in the Koran, Haddith (battle plans), and other holy scriptures of islam, we will suffer woeful losses at the hands of devout, "civilian" muslims who are commanded by their scriptures to conquor the entire world while killing all the Jews and before even the Jew, peaceful muslim "hypocrits" who would honestly negotiate peace with infedels.

The ~800 year war against the muslim invasion by the Ottoman Empire is only an example of our future, if we are willing to defend our children's children futures.
