Libya's leader Colonel Gaddafi has said his country sought to develop weapons of mass destruction capabilities but will dismantle this programme completely, Prime Minister Tony Blair has announced. "This decision is an historic one and a courageous one and I applaud it," Mr Blair said.
Colonel Gaddafi had told him the process of dismantling the programme would be "transparent and verifiable", the prime minister said in a statement from Durham Cathedral.
The range of all Libya's missiles would be restricted to "no more then 300km, he added.
Mr Blair said Britain had been engaged in talks with Libya for nine months.
"Libya came to us in March following successful negotiations on Lockerbie to see if it could resolve its weapons of mass destruction issue in a similarly cooperative manner," he said.

Oh, and France would not allow us to fly over their air space, making the mission twice as long (and twice as dangerous). We should never forget this.
Younger people here may think that France's anti-U.S. attitude began with the Bush presidency. Not so. France's opposition to our Iraq operation was no aberration.

I jsut got home and saw this...
Im wondering... Could Khadafi have tempted Saddam to transport his WMD to Khadafi all the while working with the US and Britain to rid these weapons?
Probably not, but it just popped in my head.

That would be the Sting of All Time, if that is what happened!!! HA! Not sure what Ghadafi has to gain out of the deal (besides money i guess) so the possibility of the scenario is far fetched in my opinion...just want to call dibs on the idea of no one else has... hehe

I am intrigued by your idea. It is quite elegant, and ties up everything nicely. It explains where the WMD are and why they weren't used. And, it is totally unexpected, which is how GW operates. Very nice thinking!!

Ghadaffi gets back in the fold of civilized nations and leapfrogs over the Saudis as supremo Arab ally of the west.
He also gets a market for his oil.

He also gets a market for his oil. And your contribution ties nicely into my theory... Want to write a novel? haha

Well, we will see what happens. I will be sure to give you credit if you are right!
You know, this could be something Ghadaffi might do. He obviously likes the theatrical, given the outlandish costumes he always wears. And he does have those Charlie's Angels bodyguards. LOL!
To: Da_Shrimp
Sounds like Qadaffi heard George W. Bush's message from Iraq LOUD AND CLEAR!

And he does have those Charlie's Angels bodyguards. LOL! That would work nicely into a novel... Nothing sells better than terrorist-turns-WMD-stopper with sexy bodyguards.
Time to hit the sack... Ping me if i am right...hahaha

"I would have gotten Khaddafy to give up his WMD even sooner!" --John F Kerry, Madeline Halfbright tried to get Khaddafi to give it up, but he wouldn't have anything to do with her. Rumor has it he would rather have had carnal relations with his favorite camel.

US takes over Syria, finds Saddam's WMD buried in the desert. Dean; See, the WMD's were no real threat, because they were buried. Fast forward to NOv. 2004: Bush wins all 50 states with a landslide! The only thing better would be to find Hitlery!'s jockstrap burried with the WMD. That would ice it.
