Libya's leader Colonel Gaddafi has said his country sought to develop weapons of mass destruction capabilities but will dismantle this programme completely, Prime Minister Tony Blair has announced. "This decision is an historic one and a courageous one and I applaud it," Mr Blair said.
Colonel Gaddafi had told him the process of dismantling the programme would be "transparent and verifiable", the prime minister said in a statement from Durham Cathedral.
The range of all Libya's missiles would be restricted to "no more then 300km, he added.
Mr Blair said Britain had been engaged in talks with Libya for nine months.
"Libya came to us in March following successful negotiations on Lockerbie to see if it could resolve its weapons of mass destruction issue in a similarly cooperative manner," he said.

Three cheers that Tony Blair made the announcement first....but what time is it in Britain?
Samuel Berger, Clinton's buttboy says "this is a positive development. I hope it's a precurser to reengage the Koreans, Berger says. He also says Korea is much further ahead in nuclear development than Libya. Seems to me, he says, we can now sit down with North Koreans.
Isn't it just like CNN and Blitzer? To have to get a former Clinton buttboy to discuss something this big? Never fails!!!

No kidding! Some people just don't want to believe in what we are doing. I was listening to President Bush on the radio, he kept repeating that hopefully Libya will follow through with what they have promised. And this has been in the works for 9 months. As Reagan said, "Trust, but verify". In this case it is, "don't trust, and verify".
In this case, which is not what happened in Iraq, Libya is providing all information about their WMD programs. They are admitting they have WMD programs and want to get rid of them. That is all Iraq ever had to do to prevent an invasion. Fortunately for the people of Iraq, Saddam miscalculated.

And like the President said: words aren't enough. Actions count.Bingo! That line was most certainly in there, and intentionally! I hope the transcipt of the speech comes out soon. Or that I can see it replayed in full again.

i hope no [Democrat] candidates say something stupid. They'll be find as long as they keep their mouths shut. And don't speak in sign language. Or write. Or type. Or blink in Morse Code. They need to just sit there like Stephen Hawking and stare into the abyss.
