"Nerve Gas Used" in Capturing Saddam

Politics: 15 December 2003, Monday. US troops used nerve gas as they broke into Saddam Hussein's hiding place to capture him, ITAR-TASS reported Monday, citing Saudi press. The substance's effect was felt also by some local people, the agency said.

Saddam was captured in a US raid on Saturday, and reportedly showed no resistance when they found him in a mud hut basement near his hometown of Tikrit. The ousted dictator, however, insisted for negotiations.

I am Saddam Hussein, President of Iraq, and I want to negotiate, the man has told US soldiers as they broke into the underground hideaway.

Saddam is currently in US custody in Iraqi capital Baghdad, and is undergoing interrogation after DNA tests proved his identity. He doesn't act aggressively, reports say, but only gives rote answers and no intelligence information.

No, the "gas" was just the result of Saddam having to live on Vienna sausages and beans while staying in the hole

Nerve Gas?

If it were Nerve Gas (Taubin, Sarin, or VX), "So - Dumb" would be dead as a door-knob. Before he died he would have been as loose as a goose and stewed in his own juice, (blurred vision, tighten of chest, difficulty in breathing, vomiting, loss of control of voluntary muscles, then involuntary muscles and finally death if I remember my training correctly).

How absolutely STUPID can some people be?!!

I think it was gas alright. It was the gas that Sadam filled up the chamber. Good thing the troops did not light a match.

If this WAS true, I would only commend our military for taking logical action. Hussein needed to be taken alive, and why should we endanger the lives of servicemen to catch vermin? If we have some kind of sophisticated sleep gas, then it should be employed where necessary in the war on terror and terror's supporters.

To paralize this guy you would have had to use ego gas. I think he had already lost his nerve.

US troops used nerve gas as they broke into Saddam Hussein's hiding place to capture him, ITAR-TASS reported Monday, citing Saudi press. The substance's effect was felt also by some local people, the agency said.

The gas, codenamed "Ol' Crusty," was slow, but effective.
