Bush Approval Ratings Goes Up
Washington Post ^
Posted on 12/14/2003 11:12:25 PM PST by GulliverSwift
Americans greeted the news of Saddam Hussein's capture with measured optimism while acknowledging the breadth of the challenges still facing the United States in Iraq, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll conducted yesterday.

At least initially, the capture did not do much to change the overall shape of opinion on the war in Iraq.
Roughly 2 in 3 respondents said Hussein's capture would be at least somewhat helpful in ending attacks on U.S. troops and contributing to Americans' long-term security, although only 15 to 23 percent thought the arrest would "help a great deal." Larger percentages were hopeful the news would help restore stability to Iraq.
Nine in 10 Americans said big challenges still face the United States in Iraq, with fewer than 1 in 10 saying Hussein's capture would resolve the hurdles facing U.S. troops. Eight in 10 rejected the notion that with the former Iraqi president in custody, the United States should withdraw its forces from the country.
President Bush received immediate credit for his handling of the situation in Iraq, with his approval rating in that area jumping to 58 percent, from 48 percent in mid-November. In a separate survey conducted yesterday by CNN/USA Today/Gallup, 8 in 10 Americans said finding Hussein was a "major achievement."
Bush's overall job approval rating in the Post-ABC News survey was 57 percent, 4 percentage points up from a survey conducted last week and the same as this time last month.

Disturbing: Communist activism in Iraq
Much of the celebrations have been accompanied by the red flags of the Iraqi Communist Party, many of them complete with a hammer and sickle. Today, there was more celebration.... and there were more red flags. Their is a communist element trying to capitalize on this. I find it interesting that there were no red flags until very recently. There is a concerted effort to hijack this freedom. This story is not being reported by any media that I can find...

I believe I heard that the poll consisted of 500 people.
Reminds me of the recent Quinnipiac poll of 400 people who wanted her heinous declared Queen.

Bwhahahah!
Great Cartoon.
Saddam proved to be a coward when the time came, even uday and qusay fought to the death. This has to be a very humiliating day for terrorists and democrats.
I bet we see a Bush approval rating over 60 this week or next.

"But what should be done with one of this generation's most notorious villains?"
He needs to be tried, convicted, and executed to put a final end to his sad story.

This story is not being reported by any media that I can find... Fox News mentioned it this morning. They were showing a group of men dancing in the street. Steve Dippy-doucy said they were commies, and their HQ was across the street from their (Fox's) hotel.

Isn't this the same "Saddam Hussein the Tikriti" who vowed he'd "never be taken alive?"
Somebody needs to ask this of 'Peter Jennings al Canucki'

Much of the celebrations have been accompanied by the red flags of the Iraqi Communist Party I haven't seen any. How about posting a few pictures from different sources. Is it worse than the Howard Dean communist insurgency in the U.S.?

I have to say, as much as I dislike Dean, he and Joe Lieberman both impressed me with their responses to Hussein's capture. Wes Clark was a bit weasly, and Kerry just flat out blew it once again. His campaign has flat-lined.

"According to ABC, Saddam's first words to US soldiers were "I am Saddam Hussein, Presient of Iraq. I want to negoitate." The reply from the soldier who pulled him out of the hole;
"President Bush sends his regards!" Just illustrated on FoxNews as Greg Palkot came out of the exact hole that Saddam Hussein had been hiding in!
Fox ROCKS!

The nut case LIBS are out in full force on radio talk shows. Today on Glenn Beck some nutty lib called in and said, Bush is the one who is evil and Saddam is a hero to many of us. Then he ended up telling the host to go to hell. Typical LIBS. I knew they were boiling in their on vomit yesterday. LOVE IT !

I saw a red flag with hammer and sickle yesterday and figured I was seeing things. Wasn't sure what was going on with that. Thanks for mentioning this.

What's the deal? Incessant negative media coverage by everybody except FOX dampen the public's mood? Speaking of negative media coverage to dampen the public mood, what about the negativity toward celebrating Christmas? I have noticed that the Christmas decorations in our local mall are very sparse and the city decorations in downtown Bellingham seem to be toned down, as well. I think that the left is intentionally trying to throw a wet blanket over the holiday mood and spending. I'm going to call the mall and tell them that their lack of holiday spirit did not go unnoticed and then I intend to speak to some of the managers of the stores in the mall and ask them to complain, as well.
