LEESBURG, VA

17 year old Loudoun County Girl Gone. Missing Since Friday

A 17 Year old Loudoun County girl has been missing since Friday, December 12, 2003. Christa was last seen Friday morning at Dulles Town Center Mall in Sterling, Virginia. She had driven to the mall in a 1993 green Ford Escort Wagon and developed car trouble along the way. She arrived at the mall at approximately 10:00 am, went in to pick up a package and was seen as very distraught by associates in the mall. She was given directions to a local auto parts store in Sterling and left the mall with her package. She has not been seen since.

The car she was driving was found on Shaker Woods at Wiehle Avenue in Reston, Virginia. According to neighbors, the car was left around 11:00 am parked in a turn lane at a 45 degree angle and must have been left in neutral gear as it apparently rolled into a ditch and became stuck later that afternoon. The car was found Saturday afternoon by Fairfax County Police unlocked with the keys in the ignition and her package still in the backseat.

Her family was notified and retrieved the vehicle. Friends and family have had no word from her at all.

Leesburg Police Officer, Corey Smith is heading up the investigation into Christa?s disappearance. Police have actively pursued several leads but have had no luck into locating the missing girl.

Christa is 5?7? tall, reddish brown hair, medium build. She wears braces and occasionally wire-rimmed glasses. She is possibly wearing a yellow and navy blue Tommy Hilfiger jacket and jeans.

Her distraught family and friends are desperately appealing to the public to give any information regarding Christa and her whereabouts to the Leesburg Police Department or any Local law enforcement agency as she is listed regionally as a missing person.

Because she's 17? Maybe they don't see that as priority as much as that SUX.

A friend e-mailed a bunch of us last night that her child's religion class teacher's daughter was missing - same case, so the information is slowly getting out. Here are some additional details as reported in today's Northern Virginia Journal:

Loudoun teen missing since Friday crash

By ANDREA PRICER
Journal staff writer
Lisa Rogaliner wants her daughter to know she shouldn't worry about the car and just needs to come home.
But Rogaliner thinks something far more sinister than a minor crash occurred when her 17-year-old failed to go to school or work Friday and one of the family's cars was found in Reston - unlocked, with the keys inside.
Christa Rogaliner was last seen at about 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Bombay Co. store at Dulles Town Center mall in Sterling, according to her mother and Leesburg police.
She wasn't even supposed to be there, her mother said.
The Loudoun High School student had wanted to go to the mall to pick up a Christmas gift for her sister that she'd already ordered and paid for. Bombay Co. called earlier that week to say she needed to get it immediately, but Christa doesn't like to drive and couldn't find a ride, her mother said Monday.
Apparently, after her mother left for work Friday morning, Christa decided to borrow her father's car without permission and drive to the mall. The store manager later said the girl was upset when she got there and told store employees that she hit a curb, ``wrecking'' her father's car and causing it to shake severely, Rogaliner said.
The store employees referred her to a nearby AutoZone in the Potomac Run Shopping Center but she may have missed the side street into the center, Rogaliner said.
The car was found in Reston's Shaker Woods neighborhood on Wiehle Avenue just off the Fairfax County Parkway not far from Route 7, police and Rogaliner said. Route 7 is a main highway from Leesburg to Sterling; the mall and the auto store are located along Route 7.
The car, a 1993 green Ford Escort station wagon, was found unlocked with the keys inside and the gift, a picture she bought for her 19-year-old sister, was in the backseat, Rogaliner and police said.
The car was parked at an odd angle to the curb, as if Christa had stopped in the midst of a three point U-turn, Rogaliner said.
Leesburg police spokesman Lt. Jeff Dube said a neighborhood witness spotted a girl matching Christa's description at about 11 a.m. Friday.
That day she was wearing jeans and a navy-blue and bright-yellow Tommy Hilfiger ski coat, Rogaliner said. She had an ivory and tan purse as well but not the medication she used for a sinus infection.
Rogaliner said she got home at about 5:30 p.m. Friday with her husband Jeff, whom she had picked up from Dulles International Airport. They immediately noticed his car was missing from the garage.
Rogaliner said they didn't notice initially that the spare keys were gone and thought the car was stolen. Before reporting it, she decided to ask Christa, assuming her daughter was at work.
Andy's Pizza and Subs manager Abed Alkteifan said she wasn't scheduled to work that weekend until Sunday, but never showed up that day.
``She always shows to work, and if she has to be late, she [calls],'' Alkteifan said Monday. ``We're all real sad. Hopefully, she's safe.''
``She would never blow off work,'' Rogaliner said. ``I just got sick. I looked at Jeff and said Christa's missing and the car's gone.''
Rogaliner said they reported the car stolen and their daughter missing Friday night. The car was located Saturday afternoon, according to police.
``For her to have borrowed the car,'' Rogaliner said, ``and then to have wrecked, she thinks her life is over. Her life is not over.''
Rogaliner said it was very unusual for her daughter to stay away and not call. No one among her family, neighbors or friends have heard from her. Rogaliner said she can't imagine that her daughter would stay away because of the damaged car although she would be upset and, if that's the case, she urged the girl to come home.
Police continue to search for Christa Rogaliner and anyone who has seen a girl matching her description is asked to call Leesburg police at 703-771-4500. Christa Rogaliner is 5 feet 7 inches tall, with reddish-brown, shoulder-length hair, green eyes and metal braces. She wears wire-rimmed glasses to drive.

Looking at the map,
If she left Leesburg and went to Sterling,
that appears to only be about 10 miles or so.
She hit a curb and damaged the car, but she
made it to the mall in Sterling.
Then the car was found in Reston,
which is not really a route to take on the way back home,
but a little bit to the South and East (towards D.C.).
Possibly she was just 'lost' at the time.
Possibly something worse.
It is puzzling and worrysome that she left the keys
in the car and left the car un-locked.

The article says she 'did not like to drive'
So I suspect that when she snuck out with her dad's
car to make the drive to the mall, that she had
one of her friends go with her.
"Mom is gone to the airport to pick up dad
we can take his car and run to the mall and be back
before they ever know we have gone."

"So I suspect that when she snuck out with her dad's car to make the drive to the mall, that she had one of her friends go with her."

Well, I surely understand the hope in imagining her safe in a girl-friends bedroom somewhere; but since she had to skip school that morning, I somehow doubt that was the case.

With the local publicity this has generated; cannot see any family or school friend giving her safe harbor for this amount of time.

I pray that this young girl is safe; but there are so many brutal possibilities as to what could happen here.
