Ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been arrested in Iraq, according to unconfirmed reports.
He was detained in his ancestral home town of Tikrit, Iraqi Kurdish leader Jalal Talabani said on the official Iranian news agency IRNA.
The US Defence Department said it had no confirmation of the report.
Saddam Hussein is the most wanted man on the list issued by US authorities but has not been seen since Baghdad fell to US forces in April.
Intensive search
A spokeswoman for US-led coalition forces in Baghdad said that a "very important" announcement would be made at a news conference at 1200 GMT but would not give further details.
Nazem Dabag, representative in Iran of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) also said that Saddam Hussein had been arrested.
Saddam Hussein has been the subject of intensive searches by US-led forces in Iraq but previous attempts to locate him have proved unsuccessful.
On 22 July his sons, Uday and Qusay, were killed in a raid by US forces in the northern city of Mosul.

That's the first time I've seen a full house and a royal flush in the same hand.

Good morning, and thanks for the ping!
An early Christmas present, here.
First Bush in Baghdad for Thanksgiving, now Saddam captured.
An excellent way to end 2003.

Can't wait to see how the conspiro-tards at LP react to this, they only rejoice when something bad happens over in Iraq.
Bet Howard Dean has gone through a few pair of underpants today...

Yippee, they got him. Hurrah. (pardon my excess of enthusiasm at this present time)
Now that they have him WHAT, exactly, are they going to DO with him? Torture him? No. Execute him? No. Give him every full protection under the law and even bend over backwards in some cases to give him every possibly opportunity for a gain and then end up 'Noriega-ing' him so he'll live-out his days? Quite possibly. Turn him over to the UN who will then pity him up-one-side-and-down-the-other and end up paroling him in some pro-muslim country? THAT one is high-up on the toteboards too.
Pardon my cynicism, but since WWII (and even then, in some cases) the US ain't exactly known for dealing with enemies the way they OUGHT to be dealt with, but the way all the other countries and organizations say they "should" be dealt with. And you can just bet that good 'ol Kofi-no-cream Annan is just about creaming his pants waiting to get HIS velvet-covered paws on him too.
(the Moderator may replace the possibly offending idiom with asterisks if He so desires however I would prefer the rest of the post to remain)
As for me - if I was able to do the initial interrogation: a rack (pun pun) to keep him on his feet, couple rolls of duct tape, couple cartons of long common pins, and necessary medical support to keep him from dying for a decade or two (preferably a stomach tube so he wouldn't be able to enjoy the taste of food or even water anymore).
Does anybody know if 'Dentist-guy' (torturer) from the TV show 'Alias' is available for contract work? :D

As a Brit I can now go home feeling that we have won the war the US and UK can be proud of ourselves with this great victory. Nothing like this in a war has happened, not since Napolean has been captured anyway, a very rare achievement at a great time (christmas) and also the links that have just been made with Atta and Saddam. The French and Germans can watch in jealousy that this has been achieved.
Let us hope the violence will decrease and let us give Iraq back to the people soon with our heads held high!
Let us hope also the US and UK will once more in a time of war bring more success together.
Amen

Special Thanks to you, Brits!

As a Brit I can now go home feeling that we have won the war I hope your right. However, there are still those in Iraq who don't give a damn about democracy, be cause it gets in the the way of absolute power. Hopefully the supports will fall away and these criminals can be put away or given appropriate justice.
Thank you for your support. God save the queen.(Or do you say that anymore?)

Took my 11 y.o. daughter in to the last place in town where vaccines were available, where my two grandsons had also received their vaccines the evening before. Kept wondering if it was worse to be in there with all the sick people than going without the vaccine. :-/ Hope you don't work too hard.
To: Tuscaloosa Goldfinch
Thanks for your wishes...
it's better to have the vaccine than not.
Glad you got them for your child... our town is now out.
