SADDAM HUSSEIN CAPTURED
Former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has been captured in his home town of Tikrit, according to reports.
There has been no independent verification of the news but Sky New's Foreign Editor Tim Marshall says the source of the news is usually reliable.
The US Defence Department says it has had no confirmation of the claims, which come from Iraqi Kurd leader Jalal Talabani, says the Iran news agency IRNA.
Hundreds of exultant people have taken to the streets of Kirkuk, firing weapons into the air in celebration.
A press conference has been announced for 12pm GMT.
In Baghdad, a spokeswoman for the US-led operation notified reporters that a "very important" announcement will be made at the press conference.

This whole thing goes to show just how much of a narcisist Saddam is. His sons went down fighting - they didn't care what happened. But Saddam couldn't pull the trigger on himself.

I see Iraqis celebrating on FoxNews. That one little guy dancing by the concession stand was pretty funny, wasn't he? Every time he comes on doing the dancing baby routine, I crack up.

Charlie Rangel looking into whether the use of a straight razor to shave Saddam was extreme force, and whether a disposable could have been used.
Man, found like a rat in a hole, He must stink!

Chris Wallace keeps repeating the fact, as mentioned by President Bush and Bill Frist, that this is an "enchanting day."

This from the blog of the Iraqi who calls himself The Mesopotanian:
http://www.messopotamian.blogspot.com/ MOTHER OF DAYS
ÈÓã Çááå ÇáÑÍãä ÇáÑÍíã: Çäåã íßíÏæä ßíÏÇ æÃßíÏ ßíÏÇ Ýãåá ÇáßÇÝÑíä à ãåáåã ÑæíÏÇ ÕÏÞ Çááå ÇáÚÙíã"
"They Scheme hard, and I scheme; give them time the Kafirin, give them plenty of time Sadaq Allahu Al Adhim . "And they plot, and Allah plots, and Allah is the best of plotters, Sadaq Allahu Al Adhim.
Before this, I prayed the traditional prayers of thanksgiving. That I, and the Iraqi people should see this day! This, surely, is the mother of all days for us. The heroes of our valiant Pesh Mergas, and the heroes of the U.S. Fourth division have done it. Now is the time to unleash the Iraqi Counter Terror; now is the time to go for the kill. Let us go after them. Dont lose this moment. They want to recant and live in equality with the people? they have a chance - otherwise they will have to go. I am too overwhelmed with emotion to write coherently; please excuse me. The foul mouths of the enemies of our people everywhere and the neighboring vultures and hyenas be stuffed with dirt; we will come after you; your time will come.
Long live the great alliance of Mesopotamia and the United States of America and her allies. Now is the time, now is the time; Do not delay; unleash the Counter Terror.
God Bless Iraq; God Bless America; God bless the Allies.
And above all Praise be to Allah the Almighty the Avenger.
Salaam
Alaa
I love this guy.

Never, in human history, has one country done so much for another's benefit
One could argue that the U.S. and Britian did about 60 years ago when western europe was liberated and then rebuilt. Perhaps the Iraqis won't forget (unlike certain european countries have).

You know, I've been wondering about those red flags. They looked blank to me, but I couldn't tell. And I was wondering, "Why red?"

I think we should turn Saddam over to the Iraqi people so they can give him the Ceausescu treatment.

Yes but it's a really nice hole. Some shag carpeting and couple of elvis posters, and beanbag chairs is all it really needs.

What a dark crevice of America DU is. George Bush could walk across water, return with a cure for cancer, and the DU'ers would bitch about the fish that may have been hurt in the process.

Oh, I have no doubt that a month from now the Iraqis will be back to doing their imitation of the French, whining about how we haven't established paradise quickly enough, griping about unemployment, voting in socialist policies and demanding a seat on the UN Security council, b*tching about Kyoto...
But for now, they're happy. And it's nice while it lasts.

Thanks for posting.
It warms my heart when I read that ordinary Iraqis understand and appreciate what the coalition forces, and especially our military, have done for them, right down to naming the specific units.
May God continue to bless and protect our troops.
