The day after his suicide, huh?
WHERE are you getting your information from? Certainly not from what has been WRITTEN anywhere on this site.
NOW who's using sloppy debating skills?

"And we can do that without self doubt - they made a choice - we call it like it is - selfish. "
The need you have to trumpet this simpleton's analysis at the expense of others is SELFISH.

I don't want to brawl with anyone over this, and I won't bore everyone by repeating myself...but often, selfishness doesn't have a thing to do with it. It really doesn't. I speak from experience.
To: KangarooJacqui
Ok, the day after we heard about it here. Good enough?
And, by the way? Lashing out at me won't help. I didn't do anything to you.

I don't usually post until I have read the entire thread (no Lazamataz I) but I will break that rule now to say .....
Good post.
Now on to the rest of the thread........

"I'm not the monster I am made out to be... just, well, opinionated."
And your own debating style has big holes in it too. "FReeping the day after her husband's suicide" and "pouring everything out about herself over at the other thread" being just two cases where you are not only factually wrong, but also just being downright mean for no other reason than to score points.
Well, sorry but that is just vile.

My mode is to acknowledge the relation between powerlessness and depression, and trying to cure the powerlessness through action I would add that I think the often repressed anger in the face of powerlessness is a large part of some depression (mine anyway).
I've spent most of my adult life either depressed or on the edge of depression. I'm a perfectionist and feel a need to please others even if it makes me unhappy. I've always put on a good face. I never missed work because I was under the covers in a dark bedroom, but I had a well thought out suicide plan with all the components available to act. In some strange way having those things available made me feel better...I knew there was a way out if it got too bad.
I had a job I hated because of stress, irregular hours, and having relatively little power (others said jump and I was expected to say "how high".)
I'm very independent, I do not ask for help easily. But I finally got to the point where I went to a therapist which probably did provide some insight but didn't relieve the depression. Finally between the lack of energy that comes from depression, the fatigue from lack of sleep, and the therapist's constant nudging I tried several SSRI's. Others seem to find the drugs more helpul than I did. I did.n't like the feeling of numbness they caused. I preferred feeling something - even if it was bad - to feeling nothing. I quit going to the therapist and toughed it out for several more years, getting angrier and gaining more weight, and suffering more symptoms
Finally after more years than I care to mention, necessity overcame fear, and I changed jobs. It was the most difficult thing I've ever done - giving up a good job with good benefits in an uncertain economy. (No spouse, no safety net, no second income.) But I did it and the depression lifted. I felt immediately better and there was continued improvement over the following 12 or so months. I still have other issues in my life that arent' perfect (everyone does) but with the one big overshadowing thing out of my life, I can now deal with these other annoyances in life.
Others certainly may have different experiences, but taking charge of my life is what made the difference for me.

and "pouring everything out about herself over at the other thread" being just two cases where you are not only factually wrong, but also just being downright mean for no other reason than to score points. All one has to do is click on your name, click on "In Forum", and look at what you posted on the other thread - I am dead on accurate in that assessement. Not to score points, but to be truthful.
SOmetimes the truth hurts, and seems vile, but it's still the truth. Like I said, lashing out at me won't help. If you actually want to talk, I'm good with that, but not this way.

We are in agreement. I posted before I saw your account of it.
Serious depression can include debilitating physical symptoms, like head pain and extreme weakness. It can also include confusion, psychosis, mania, positive symptoms, negative symptoms (schizoid) that make simple functioning a daunting task.
I speak of the serious form of the illness, not garden variety, wrong diagnosis, situational, personality disorders, hypochondriac, anxiety, etc.
There is too much disinformation out there by biased parties with financial or political interests in the matter.
I have studied and analyzed the topic without those biases, as well as forming rational conclusions based on 1st person observation.
I see the topic from within, and from an objective analysis.

I meant the act to go as far as put the gun to their body. AND pull the trigger. (was supposed to be a loaded gun, had wrong gun but didn't know it.)

Now on to the rest of the thread........ Are you sure you wanna do that? And a related question: do all threads have to deteriorate as badly as this? Freeping widow, Prince of Denmark at war with liberals in Fairbanks, or was it at Iwo Jima, taxing government, somebody promoting expensive health store supplements, somebody else promoting a motivational speaker, oh boy! In any event, do read Lady Doc's post!

Yes, it's like having a cold. Most people don't advise those with colds to pray and automatically get well. (Although that CAN happen!) : )

Well, yeah, there is that. ;0)
I just see a lot of misdirected anger, and I know it's one of the phases of coping so I'm TRYING to be understanding and compassionate, but I guess what I see as understanding and compassionate is different.
Dosn't make it any less valid, though.

It costs me about 45 dollars for a bottle of 90 pills.WOW!
I was trying to kick booze in the early 80's (L-Glutamine's best for that) and took L-Tryptophan and Niacin as a good little calmative to take at bedtime.
This was before the silly ban (3 deaths in Japan IIRC) and since I was both drunk and broke, I think I would remember if L-Tryptophan was any more than, say, $5 per 100.

Muscle spasms, "dead" legs, the darkness, the sleeping problems---I remember all of that.
