[history]
Roosevelt School in Tulare appeared to be the only elementary school affected by today's planned statewide boycott by Hispanics.
"We have almost 200 kids out," Principal Barbara Xavier said, noting the campus has the most Hispanic students in the Tulare City School District.

This isn't such a bad idea!
Schools collect tax money according to the FTE
FTE = Full Time Equivalent
Might be possible to organize other kinds of student boycotts to get messages across since the district would get less money each day students were absent!

Will the cost of educating a third of this student body be deducted from the tax payers bill for the day?

A large portion will end up in jail or in some menial type job anyway. Oh wait, that menial type job will have already been taken by an "Undocumented Migrant". The immigrants work as gardeners and hamburger flippers. Their sons all too often scorn such work and become gangbangers and their daughters bear children to the gangbangers and go on welfare. Then they all blame the gringos for their problems.

The percentage of CONSERVATIVES among hispanics is dropping. 40 years ago they voted mostly conservative. The reasons for that is that 40 years ago the hispanic vote was predominantly Cuban-American and some SW hispanic American. The percentages are changing with the high welfare and government dependent classes moving in from Mexico -- and they aren't the Catholics you think with a very high teen and illegitimacy rate ---- in high schools with many immigrants from Mexico --- it's common for girls to have 2 or 3 babies before age 18. You are correct. There have been many old stock Spanish living in the southwest since Spanish colonial days. I've read that they disdain the Mexicans. Even the Mexicans who migrated here forty years ago tended to be of a better class. Now we are getting the bottom of the barrel, the poorest of Mexicans -- many are illiterate even in Spanish and many don't even speak Spanish -- they are Indians from southern Mexico. And, not surprisingly, they want their government goodies.
You are also right to point out that the Catholic orientation of Mexican immigrants is exaggerated. Religious practice is declining. I don't know what the statistic is now, but about five years the illegitmacy rate in Mexico was 28%, but among the offspring of Mexican immigrants it was 40%.

It's not good what the governor is doing," Angelica Avila said in Spanish. "We're representing Mexicans. The governor is representing Americans. Take you a*% back to Mexico and boycott from there.

joke will be on them when the school says they cant lose that much money and adds another day.
then again, they will just do what happened to us kids in CA...
give them extra work that counts as a "day in school" when we would miss time because of vacation/family emergencies/etc.

The funniest FReepers of all, are the ones who you can find one minute posting on the CFR threads, wanting to start the revolution over the government limiting our rights to political free speech, and the next minute on this thread, demanding that people who are using their rights to political free speech be deported, or worse.

How interesting!
San Diego radio says $40 per day, A CA Guy says over $400 per day, the article quotes a school official saying $25 per day.
Hell, there's the problem with public funding of education in this day and age: they can't even agree on how much is reaching the school! What a ripe situation for corruption!

Thanks for your honest post. Most people on this BB have no problem with Americans of Mexican heritage, African heritage, Asian heritage etc... It's the tens of millions of illegals that some people like myself have a problem with. In my state, they have unfairly decimated all the trades, undercutting working living wages because they pay no taxes, insurance etc. That's my biggest gripe. Too many of my friends have been driven out of business in various trades over the last 5 years. Bush must be a complete moron if he doesn''t think this will have political ramifications later on doen the road. I have no problem with a temporary work permit system, provided these people can demonstrate that they will be paid "on the books" and compete fairly with American born citizens for the same jobs. Anything less is a political sellout and unfair to native born Americans. I, like most people on this BB have a huge problem with "Amnesty". It's absolute bull$hit, rewarding criminal behavior....and "selective" law enforcement, at best. Will it be politically tough deporting millions, you bet...probably nearly impossible, but GWB is just as culpable as Clintoon, Senior Bush, even R. Reagan. It would be nice if he grew some political balls.
I wish GWB would get a freakin' clue.

These people are going to have to make their minds up to which country their loyalties are going to be to. I don't think they can have it both ways. Actually now they can. They can be dual-citizens --- that means they can wave the Mexican flag, shout Viva La Patria (which doesn't mean the USA) and still collect welfare checks, food stamps, vote in USA elections.
