I'm sorry to have to report that one of our own Freepers, TrappedInLiberalHell, has passed away. His profile is HERE

I met Chris this past summer and found him to be a brilliant young man, who unfortunately carried around a lot of painful psychological troubles. He wrote few posts here, but was an active and clever noter, and a very sweet young man.

R.I.P., Chris van Loon

Yes indeedy. PTSD is a terrible disorder. But I'm a little nervous about discussing it here, as when it has come up before, a bunch of bullies stomped in declaring it to be bogus, etc. I have PTSD and cannot tolerate anyone who says that it is not real. I had Lyme Disease a number of years ago, and plenty of doctors told me it doesn't exist, it's all in your mind, yadda yadda yadda. Now there's a "crisis" regarding Lyme Disease. Blech! I hate ignorant, intolerant people.

I loved his screen name, his witty posts, and some of the greatest taglines: "Ban aural sects! Stop listening to Scientology books on tape!" "Do Muslim androids dream of electric goats?"

Me too. Loved his screen name and would make a point of reading his comments. The aural sects tagline was one of the greatest taglines. I had a good laugh over it.

Chris will be missed and my prayers go out to his family and friends.

This is Chris's widow...

I have followed this thread since the beginning and you are all too kind. I have a page full of notes regarding people who'd responded, whom I'd like to talk with further (either on this thread or privately), but for now I just want to say that I've lurked here, and I knew you loved him. Sadly, depression took away that knowledge from him, and it took away a lot else besides.

I thank all of you who ever laughed at his jokes, smiled at his puns, or simply appreciated him being here. Lurking will not be the same without him, and I've had to disable my Yahoo Messenger because it reminded me too much of him... and the random FR threads he'd show me to read...

My love to you all, and thankyou for your sympathy. It means more than you know.

Much love,
Fiona (KangarooJacqui)

When I hear a loud noice or see a bright flash I don't expect, these people that say PTSD doesn't exist had better not be standing between me and cover. Most of these people probably never really had the pure dog s$%t scared out of them.

I think the word is out. A 500+ thread with only one or two insensitive posts is maybe not a FRecord, but, a good start.

"When I plant my garden next year, I hope you will be looking over my shoulder"

From what I can tell, our FRiend will definitely be doing that! Look for an extra special tomato crop! :)

I don't know why I can't keep away from this thread. Everyone is now in bed, but, like a moth to a flame, I wanted to check in and see how everyone was here.

What a great place FR is.

Ah, Fiona! You got in! So glad for that. Doncha just love all these wonderful people? Chris really made an impact here, and he'd be so proud to know that.

Just take your time, and play it cool. You need to get some rest and get as "over" this as you can. Just keep following the thread. It's miraculous.
Love, J.

Oh Fiona,
I'm so, so sorry. He was wonderful.
It's just one day, then the next and the next that you have to deal with. But he'll always be there, he'll always be in your heart. It's such a deep hole right now, but everyday that goes by the light will shine in a little more until only a shadow of pain is left. All your memories will be good, it takes time.
I wish I could be right next to you to give you a hug. I wish I could make it all better. Please know that we all care.

I want to take this occasion to be very frank about myself. I have been battling depression most of my 37 years on this earth. I sought help in October 1997, when I reached a crossroads, and a combination of medication, prayer, diet, vitamins, therapy, etc. have since that day and so far saved my life.

I don't want to be maudlin. I want to stress that help is available, all kinds of help.

My favorite depressed person in history is Winston Churchill, who referred to his depression as the 'black dog.' Remember always that the depression is not reality, it is an entity unto itself--like the black dog. Recognizing this distinction is often the best way to battle a wave of depression. The black dog might follow you for days or weeks on end, but it is not you--it is separate.

If the eyes of someone depressed should fall on these words, please understand, I will do all I can to talk and share and counsel with anyone whose depression or problems find them contemplating the abyss.

I have emailed Chris's widow and asked her if we could arrange to have some flowers sent in honor of our FRiend.

I just came upon this thread. Please ping me if you come up with a plan for flowers or whatever.

Chris was a funny freeper, and I'd be thrilled to chip in to anything you are doing.
