I'm sorry to have to report that one of our own Freepers, TrappedInLiberalHell, has passed away. His profile is HERE
I met Chris this past summer and found him to be a brilliant young man, who unfortunately carried around a lot of painful psychological troubles. He wrote few posts here, but was an active and clever noter, and a very sweet young man.

I agree with you re: evil influence. The strenghth to overcome is often very shaky. God gives the power & stability.
I think many who are more than one time posters on this thread might have gone thru depression. I include myself. We know that by the Grace of God it is NOT us that this thread is dedicated to & for (yes double ending prep for the grammar cops around ! *G*
I was very suicidal and a strong Christian. I just didn't call on God at that time - I guess part of me was "enjoying" if you will, my pity party. One of my seminary prof's became my counselor & "earthly savior" when I confided in him

Very heartbreaking. He is one year younger than my son. So young, but then again, we live in very depressing times and sometimes it just seems to weigh us down. I know we have to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and keep marching, but sometimes it's just very hard. My brother left this world at only 16 years old. Even at that age, life can seem overwhelming. God Bless and Comfort his family...

Depression is like being in a dark hole and sinking deeper and deeper. You can see the light at the top of the hole but the further you sink the dimmer the light gets. As you sink you grasp the sides of the pit only to find there is nothing to grab hold of. The further you fall into it the less you seem to care or the less you can fight. You are robbed of all joy and pleasure in even the simplest of things and you begin to pull away from the things that bring you happiness. The darkness can be felt. It is as if a heavy blanket of darkness completely covers you and suffocates you. A lot of times even those closest to you are unaware of what you are going through because you continue through the motions of life as if all is normal. Since many are so busy living their own lives they are oblivious.

Oh Katnip... some things never leave our souls.. the needless loss of a dear person ...as your brother.. is in this category.
I am so very sorry. Some wounds never really heal underneath although on the surface they appear pretty impressive.

God bless and keep Chris close.
Always liked that name he came up with.

Serpent, I don't doubt you. That message was intended to be a private one, but I goofed. Been kind of a hard day.
I apologize. While there ARE some here who would be ultra critical, I realize in retrospect, that they're not likely to be on this thread anyway. Everyone here is concerned and caring, and it's been an amazing thing to watch. I'd be happy to discuss depression with you; but please private mail me.....mostly because it's really a private issue. I have no hesitation to discuss it with just about anyone. Who knows; maybe one of these days I'll write a vanity post about it.
Sorry......it was stupid of me.
Cheers!
J.

You have described it pretty well. I have never heard anyone else say it like that.

I just read the entire thread...this is so very sad. My condolences to the family.
To the wife of TILH:
Stay strong in faith...remember ALWAYS that our Lord loves us, so turn to him. He will guide you in these difficult times. Just go to him in prayer. My family will keep you in our prayers (especially during the holiday season). Feel free to call on any of us if you need anything. Freepers stick together and we are here for you.
I can only imagine

That was a tough one to read for sure... {{sigh}}

I have to get to bed.... goodnight everyone, especially Chris' family.
You know by now that thousands of people are praying for you and for Chris.

I agree with you re: diet, exercise & sleep. Without these the problem is manifest.
When I did counseling I would NOT see the patient if they did NOT work out 3X a week. Hike, bike, something to get more oxygen & blood flowing. It opens your brain-waves & lets you really think & process issues.
Also there are some pre sleep exercises (mental, emotional) that you can do to "program" good dreams/though process.
Well, gotta run for a bit...dinner is cooking (burning?) .. we are eating the social hour (pacific time - but in EST zone)
I hope this thread will continue.. catharsis for us all possibly?

Thoreau got in the ball park with "the masses of men lead lives of quiet desperation," but even that is pale compared to the "black cloak."
I do not personally believe in demons, but if they exist, depression is one of the big Enforcers.

But I still believe that there is evil at work in this. Having lived through it myself, I totally agree. In my experience I could literally feel the oppression. I contemplated suicide. It was as if I was being dared to do so by an unseen force. I remember clearly coming to the end of my mental rope and crying out for Jesus to deliver me. It was 2:00 AM and I was totally desperate. Nothing else had worked. I can remember when I audibly cried out to Jesus and feeling the "blanket" being lifted.

Sad to see a brilliant young mind silenced. I had a nice exchange with him back in the aftermath of ESPN/Rush. Did not read through the whole thread, so I don't know what took him at such a young age. Prayers to his surviving family and friends.

I'm very interested in lucid dreaming but I've never quite managed it. I have terrible nightmares sometimes. If, when you're done with dinner, or tomorrow, whenever, you would share some of the techniques with us, I know I, at least, would be interested.
So much depends on a good night's sleep!

(Someone you know is alone and sad this holiday season. Find that person and help.)

Re that post..
EA, I remember you were the concerned person warning another person about an idea to make a thread regarding addiction. You warned that such a thread could open the person up to pain.
You cared then, and you care now.
Someday we will all have to meet. :)

I remembered posting to him, this is too sad. May God grant him eternal peace.
