WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- A public interest group had a holiday warning and a new word Monday for parents of video game users: Beware of "killographic," defined as the "graphic depiction of brutal violence."
The National Institute on Media and the Family, an independent, nonprofit group, said "killographic" scenes are featured in a number of video games within reach of children.

1) It is my responsibility as a parent to completely monitor what they are exposed to.
2) If these games are so dang dangerous, why the heck didn't the article list them?

Dirty little secret: most video games that kids are exposed to are the ones that their parents buy for them.
You can put all of the nasty words you want on the box the game comes in, but it won't help until the parents start reading it before they buy.

Not only that, but a lot of these games are now pro-USA war games.

I'm more concerned about the SIMS game that in their TV commercial shows "hot babes" suddenly warming up to the formerly-thought-of-nerd as a studly guy when he shows up nude and they get a look at his privates.

I've never played the SIMs or other games but as I understand it, there has been (censored) nudity in the SIMs for a long time now. I think that some people even created a "patch" to the code to take away the censoring (leaving naked pixels).

"Max Payne 2" was somewhat of a disappointment. Hoever, I heard that "Manhunt" was the most graphic and violent game out there, but it also got great reviews in the trade mags. I will have to rent it this weekend and watch the bodies hit the floor.
To: Grig
Try "Freedom Fighters", where you fight commies in New York. Very much like "Red Dawn" and alot of fun.

Woo hoo. I got my someone Rainbow Six and Delta Force for Christmas.

I think that some people even created a "patch" to the code to take away the censoring (leaving naked pixels). Something like that. "The Sims" is a PG or PG-13 game at worst - yes, they get undressed to get in and out of the shower, like this:

And that's what you see, with the pixelated blocks on top. Other than that, there's no real nudity in the game at all, and sex between Sims is basically implied, rather than depicted - they hug, they kiss, they hold hands, they flirt, and that's about the extent of what's actually there.
Yes, you can patch the game to take away the pixelation, and see them getting in the shower that way, but it turns out that underneath the pixelation, they're not actually anatomically correct - they look like little naked Barbie or Ken dolls. And yes, if you really want such a thing, you can get user-created "skins" that will make them nude in an anatomically correct fashion, but these are unofficial, unsanctioned creations, and you have to go to the trouble of installing them yourself - it doesn't come that way by default. But even then, all they do is walk around doing their regular, mundane, non-sexual things, except that they're naked - you can't actually make them behave in an X-rated manner, even if you make them look like they're ready and willing ;)

I play The Sims.
It's appropriate for teenagers ( or middle-aged moms! )
There is NO graphic sex or nudity, UNLESS you download a patch to make it so!
The violence is motly face-slapping, ( Sims can be jealous of their mates! ) although Sims can die in housefires or from drowning or if you don't take care of their needs.
I tried letting my daughter play the game when she was 10, but the silly Sims would starve, or get fired from their work, or have some OTHEr disaster. and then she would feel guilty over a bunch of pixels! ;-( She would literaly cry over it, so i told her to wait til she was older before she played again.
Mostly The Sims is a doll-house game, and players spend HOURS building and decorating houses or the perfect restaurant , or a fabulous vacation resort. or desingning new outfits. Or Downloading new objects and making stories about their families that get posted on-line.
Mindless fun that hurts no one!
