December 11, 2003 Mel Reynolds returns to politics after nearly a decade in exile. He resigned from congress after his conviction on sex charges. Thursday -- he announced his plans to reclaim his seat in the House of Representatives
Mel Reynolds admits he made mistakes and paid the price. But he claims to have been a better congressman than the man who replaced him, Jesse Jackson Junior.
As he displays a staggering number of signatures on his nominating petitions, indicating the race is for real, Reynolds is asking the media to be as tough on Jackson as they've been on him.
"26,000 plus people in the second congressional district have signed our petitions. And we will be filing these petitions on Monday," Reynolds said.
Mel Reynolds claims to have 26 thousand signatures on his nominating petitions, despite felony convictions and jail terms for bank fraud, and having sex with an underage campaign worker.
The petitions, according to Reynolds, indicate voters in the 2nd congressional district are ready for a change. After 8 years of Jesse Jackson Junior.
"All over this district people are saying, what has he done? He's done nothing. His entire life, is a reflection of someone who's gotten things that they haven't earned," Reynolds said.
Reynolds says the media's quick to criticize him, but not congressman Jackson, whose best friend in the early 1990's was a Nigerian who turned out to be a major drug dealer in Oakland, California.
Jackson was never accused of any wrongdoing. But the FBI taped phone conversations between him and the drug dealer. And Jackson was subpoenaed to testify at the trial of the dealer, about why Jackson loaned the dealer $13-thousand dollars to buy a car.
"His father, Rev. Jackson, called the justice department and demanded that the investigation end. It is a classic example of getting -- of making a mistake. It is a classic example of money laundering and a classic example of him getting a pass because of his dad," Reynolds said.
Congressman Jackson says in a statement that: "Mr. Reynolds' charge has no credibility whatsoever and it is unfair if the press---since it knows the facts and the truth---allows Mr. Reynolds, so irresponsibly, to throw ink on peoples' reputations. Reputations that have taken decades to build and protect."
Congressman Jackson actually wrote in his autobiography about the pain of being deceived by the drug dealer who was posing as an international businessman. The dealer, by the way, was also a close friend of Jackson's brother, Jonathan. And at one time the FBI was investigating both Jackson brothers.
ABC7 called the U.S. Attorney's office in San Francisco, and the family patriarch, Reverend Jesse Jackson senior, but they haven't returned out calls.

Clemency actually, but Mel was one of the last-minute rush of pardons, clemencies (Marc Rich, Hugh Rodham, etc) by Klintoon. Ultimate irony: Jesse L. Jackson Sr. convinced Clinton to pardon Mel, and then perv was then hired by Rainbow-Push!!!
To: Dan from Michigan
Did Clinton even have a clue as to what was the purpose of presidential pardons? Sheesh.

Great choice. A racist vs. a rapist.

This pervert knows his base... Worse than him, have been elected and reelected......
And the vast majority of black voters wonder why they aren't taken seriously, and regarded as willing suckers by the Democrat party...
They continue to prove, over and over again just how stupid they REALLY are...

If this guy gets elected, won't he have to register as a convicted sex offender when he moves to DC?

Wasn't Jesse Jackson, Sr. responsible for getting Clinton to commute Mel Reynolds's sentence?

Yep. Klinton pardoned the guy who did a 14(or was it 16) year old girl. Yep. She was 14 when it started (I don't remember if the sex started then, but the game did.) Mel was the guy who was recorded on tape, when he found out the 14 year old had friends who might be "willing" (Catholic school girls to boot)shouted "I've hit the jackpot!". When he got out of the pokey, J Jackson Sr was there to pick him up in a limo and give him a bogus job, "ministering" to other prisoners. (Where have we heard this expression before?) The fact that JJ Sr wanted Mel out of the way for JJ Jr to take his seat is interesting. The fact that Mel now wants to bite the hand that fed him is interesting, too! (I love it when Dems implode.)

No way Reynolds got 26,000 valid signatures.
He has no chance of beating JJ, Jr.

I can't believe this guy can run for Congress again. I thought if you were a convicted felon, He Was Not Pardoned by Clinton, you could not vote or run for public office.
I also wonder as a convicted Sex offender, does he not have to register as a Sex Offender?
If this guy is elected again he really does make a mockery of our elected system of government.
I wonder if the Congress, if he was elected, would even allow him to be seated?

Two proven scumbags tossing trash at each other. What a perfect representation of the RAT party. With the usual suspects (X42/rapist/purjurer and Je$$e Jacka$$) hanging around. LOL

Well, one has to hand it to Mel for his honest appraisal of Jesse Jackson Jr. A cardboard cutout would be better than Jesse Jr, but that isn't saying a whole lot, is it???

I see "CLINTONPARDON" in the key words. Refresh my memory, did Slick pardon this guy?Even Clintoon was not stupid enough to pardon this moron.
He commuted the sentence, which means Mel is still a sex offender and has to register as one, but got out early.
Mel was making crocodile tears about the need to 'support his family' as the reason for the get out of jail card.
Here's the text from my googled link above:
Jessie Jackson has added former Chicago democratic congressman Mel Reynolds to Rainbow / PUSH Coalition's payroll. Reynolds was among the 176 criminals excused in President Clinton's last-minute forgiveness spree.
Reynolds received a commutation of his six-and-a- half-year federal sentence for 15 convictions of wire fraud, bank fraud and lies to the Federal Election Commission. He is more notorious; however, for concurrently serving five years for sleeping with an underage campaign volunteer.
This is a first in American politics: An ex-congressman who had sex with a subordinate, won clemency from a president who had sex with a subordinate then was hired by a clergyman who had sex with a subordinate. His new job? .....Youth counselor.
BTW, I was working with Andy Shaw at the time this story broke, and saw the pictures that Reynolds had of the children.
I'll tell you this: if it was my daughter, I'd have been in jail.
There wouldn't have been anything left of the perp.

mel revnolds is the foulest piece of streisand in politics. They are both commies, of course, that's a given but; jackass jr. is not a sexual criminal beast. If reynolds is elected it will be a very bad day for America and a worse day for America's Blacks. Black people are at a crossroad. They can accept the fact that they are no longer THE minority because the Hispanics are and start to play on both sides of the political street or; they can get angry, demand reparations and further isolate themselves from real America. They have been hooked on the rats's narcotic lure of 'something for nothing' for so long that I fear they will make this very big, very bad mistake.
