Aliens Cause Global Warming
Caltech Michelin Lecture ^ | January 17, 2003 | Michael Crichton

My topic today sounds humorous but unfortunately I am serious. I am going to argue that extraterrestrials lie behind global warming. Or to speak more precisely, I will argue that a belief in extraterrestrials has paved the way, in a progression of steps, to a belief in global warming. Charting this progression of belief will be my task today.

How bad do things have to get before we do something? Or are we like the frog in a pot of water -- we will take it as long as the heat is turned up slowly?

Do something? Sure. Destroy the very things that make America great? No thank you.

Crichton's suggestion was legal, honorable, and potentially effective. Standing anyone who disagrees with you up against the wall was none of that (and even though I never thought you meant that literally, the implication was that we do whatever was expedient, legal or not).

In addition, what Crichton suggested was 'reasonable' in that there would be a reasonable chance to institute it. Having everyone vote the way you want - or die - would be effective, but if you're just going to dictate the way things should be with no implementation plan other than just declaring it shall be done then why not just declare yourself king and do things the way you want?

There's a lot of room between doing nothing and ineffective wishing for things that are just not going to happen.

In 1776 American colonists picked up guns and started shooting some people who disagreed with them. This was "illegal", they did not have a consensus and the only moral authority given for this action was that God was on their side. How bad do things have to get before we do likewise?

This is more than an issue of scientific credibility, it is about an evil liberal infection in our social structure that has corrupted not just the scientific community but our entire society.

The things I suggested in my previous post are not illegal or unconstitutional. You don't shoot people simply because you disagree with them, you do it for what they do -- in the case of liberals it is violating an oath of office to defend the Constitution. People have in the past been tried for treason and executed. And civil servant's blatant disregard for the constitution should be considered treason.

The Bill of Rights just took another blow a couple of days ago. The liberals get bolder and bolder -- how do we stop them? If there are no penalties they will continue as they have, but if they have to pay with their lives then they will think first. Liberals have gained control of most major institutions. Law, education, news media and entertainment media and now they are subverting corporations with political correctness. School children are being indoctrinated into Islam while Christian children are being expelled for praying over their lunch or reading the bible. Private property is confiscated and sold to chain stores. I could go on for another thousand pages.

This country was made great by the Constitution and the concept of limited government and those principles have been destroyed. So how bad do things have to get?

Thank you for a thoughtful post.

...the design of the organization and the processes for vetting science should reflect an awareness of the weaknesses inherent in human nature.

Yup. Did that. You might appreciate this solution.

Notice also the interesting idea in this UFO religion that only aliens can invent superior technology, so that the technology of the UFO itself becomes alien and unknowable, which is, of course, nonsense. Technology is technology.

Nobody believes a weather prediction twelve hours ahead.

That's why it's stupid to believe that next summer will generally be warmer than this winter.

Faith is defined as the firm belief in something for which there is no proof.

Ha ha ha. Poor Michael! As smart as he is, he really should have gone to Sunday school at least a little way past the kindergarten level.

I quit Sunday school about the same time. Explain it to me. How do you define faith?.

I define faith as belief in a supreme being. A higher order of reality. And the proof is everywhere around us, hidden from disbelivers and obvious to the rest of us.
