How about we strip the USA of any democratic notion?
The issue here is not Bush - it is dissension down a slippery slope started way back in the day - people trading Liberty for Comfort, Security and OPM.

I said it then, and I will say it again now. Signing it was a monumental mistake. He deserves the backlash he's getting right now.
Overall he's done a great job, but that was a very bad mistake. You are correct.

So, you're proposing that Bush refuse to sign and then run a re-election campaign with that baggage being broadcast on every media outlet? Come on.
I think Bush believed the Sup. Ct. would declare it unconstitutional. Unfortunately they didn't. But why, by refusing to sign, should Bush set up the conditions for a Democratic President to sign the bill in a year?

U.S. President George Bush quietly signed what he called a flawed law to reform political fund-raising on Wednesday and then set off on a blitz to raise some $3.5 million for fellow Republicans.
2 problems honor here.............
1. Bush failed to honor his oath of office
2. The dopes in the "kneepad wing" of the GOP pissed away 3.5 Mil.

Lack of courage? maybe. But it fits into his MO of ignoring things. He ignored Israel-Palestine and it got worse. He ignored the Muslims and we got 9/11. He ignored the economy and we got a crash. He ignored American workers and we got 3,000,000 missing jobs. He ignored NK and we got a crises. He ignored the world and now can't find a friend to help. He ignored what Congress is doing and we got CFR plus bigger government, bigger debt and never vetoed a spending bill.I think you forgot your sarcasm tag. At least I hope you did. Let's see......Bush is at fault because terrorist scum bomb innocent Jews. Bush caused scum to kill 3000 americans in the WTC. Bush has caused the whole world to hate us. Bush told Congress to pass CFR bill. Hmmmmm, sounds like liberal lies and talking points to me. Are you sure you're on the right website?

I will not be voting the Presidential line this coming election. That makes two of us, Laz. Actually a bit more than two but who knows how many more.
I think GWB is in potentially more re-election danger than a lot of people in these parts think. Even if those of us taking a pass on the presidential ballot next year are few, I think there will be a whole lot less enthusiasm from the base for voting for Bush.
Last time around there were zillions of so-called 'broken glass' voters who, just like me, could not wait for election day to vote for GWB and there was nothing that was going to stop us. I doubt that will be the case this time.
Meanwhile, despite a terrible, clearly phony guy running for the dems, a fellow not at all personally likeable by most, with not a whole lot of energized people backing him, it was a close election.
Next year, the dems will be energized as we were last time simply by their visceral dislike of Bush. They may have an energizing candidate who appeals to a lot of them. There may well be a bunch of "broken glass Democrats" this time and hardly any Republicans crawling over obstacles...and why should they with a President who expands government at a level not seen since LBJ?
Well, I suspect that a bunch of Freepers will be certain GWB will be a winner, and a big one, just as they were similarly convinced in 2000.
While I certainly don't relish a President Dean, Edwards, Kerry.....there is simply no way I can vote for GWB again. He is a major disappointment
Uhhh....if Hillary runs I take it back!

We should all be on our knees thanking God that George Bush is President and Al Gore is not.
Have we forgotten how close we came to Gore being President? How 9/11 would have enabled the Clintons to consolidate their power into an even more insidous threat to America? I still shudder to think about it. We take much for granted.
We sure do put a lot of responsibility on the shoulders of one man. When the problem really is the ignorance of the masses. If President Bush did not give them want they want, Hillary would be our next President.
In his heart, President Bush is a true Conservative. But he is bound by oath to serve all the people, and he is doing that well. Thats's why he will be our President for another term. And I thank God for it.
President Bush is being as Conservative as the country will allow him to be. If anything, it's the truth that has been betrayed, by all of us.

The Paleos want Bush to lose (Admit you guys) so that there is a backlash against Liberalism in America and then we can get "True" Conservatives, like Pat Buchanan elected.
But I have a better (And Probably More Realistic) Scenario:
*Bush wins big in 2004, and through his electoral coattails brings in a much more solid Senate and Congressional majorities that will last at least a decade. Bush then leaves behind a massive GOP GOTV machine and this opens the door for Governor Bill Owens to defeat Hillary in 2008.

You know,a 5-4 stupid decison to stifle free speech by a bunch of ninnies in black sheets is serious, but reversible.
All in all, GOP advances in the last 3 years in the Senate and House outweigh the temporary and frankly unbelievably absurd decision by 5 out of 9 Justices.
McCain and the rats harping about money in politics has been taken away as an issue, to the benefit of the GOP, as evidenced by their ever increasing majority status.
Attack Bush if you must, but change cannot happen until the Court is set right, and that requires at least 60 GOP Senators.
I'll take this over listening to McCain bitch, at least for now.

In all ages there have been people who made rationalizations for the loss of freedom. Especially grating on my ears are justifications that "it helps our side politically" ---- Travel far down that road, friend, and you get to communism or Naziism. Their adherents applauded the denial freedom, because it was done to help their agenda.
To: churchillbuff
We went round and round about CFR during the 2000 campaign, and again and again in 2001, and over and over in 2002. I'm a Bush supporter--Bushbot, since 1999--and I didn't like CFR then, nor now. The really disturbing aspect of this isn't President Bush, no, it's the jolting realization that the US Supreme Court is seriously broken. The most important thing we must do is fix the USSC, that and win the War on Terrorism. If we fail at these two things, nothing else will matter.
