He's a Constitution minded President. That is quite possibly the most inane comment I have ever seen on FR.

If we vote them out in a fit of single-issue petulance, then we will deserve a RAT majority we get. Single issue?! What happened to smaller, less intrusive government? They lied to us about that one too. They are getting ready to sneak through the extension of the assault weapons ban. Bush will sign it when it gets to him just he did CFR and the free drug give-away.
A RAT majority that will match the current hard-socialist-left makeup of that party, not the '90s centrist Bill Clinton version. Enjoy, if that's what you want!
Yeah, and the GOP is really looking out for us. [/sarcasm] And the over-riding reason to keep sending them back to congress...."We won't screw you as fast as the other guys."

They had a very partisan press back in those times. Every faction and party had their newspapers pushing their idea's and slamming the other side. They called each other all sorts of names I would bet. It was yellow journalism times, the press wasn't all that much professional.

I'm going to miss the Ads like the pickup dragging a chain and the daughter of the victim saying."It's like they killed my daddy all over again."

That's a joke. The Democrats don't have to obey campaign finance laws. Only the Republicans do.
Maybe down at the local level, a few bucks here or there, you're right. But the parties can no longer get around the soft money ban - an illegal attempt to circumvent it would be far too obvious with the individual contribution limits. The GOP will win out in hard money. What will likely happen is that the DNC and RNC will give a nod to certain issue advocacy groups, that will then get the excess large-money donors.

Gee, everybody is still speaking freely right now. When does that get cut off?
When the doom and gloomers help elect Dean and he gets to appoint another Ginsburg or Breyer.
Ads will be on the internet and direct mail. This hurts the liberal networks also. No revenue around election time.
The decision on the ad bans still sucks but there will be other ways to advertise.

You darn right the sky is falling and I for one don't like the looks of it.
The idea of a Democrat being President is not something I find very appealing. nor a Democrat controlled congress.

"You realize, I hope, that the founders DID NOT campaign nor run ads attacking their opponents. Maybe we should return to their standards of holding elections rather than assault the airwaves with fraudulent claims and lies. I can barely stand to watch tv during the election season because of them. Most of the fraudulent lies are from RATS so this might help."
Perhaps the most ignorant statement I've seen on FR. You really, really need to read the editorials and articles regarding politicians and elections during the "good old days".

It is time to revive an old process of impeaching judges who are obviously insane, senile, or just freaking stupid.
Now everyone should really be glad that the idiots didnt grant cert to any 2nd Amendment case. If they had, it would be in double deep sh*t.
But anyway, the Republic is toast. Long live the Soviet States of America.
To: Protagoras
I'm going to TRY to do it by reelecting Bush and getting the 60 votes we need in the Senate.
What are you going to do, just bitch and moan?

IMHO
The entire goal of CFR was to specifically set up the vehicle for candidates to more easily access special interest dollars.
They succeeded.
I'll keep my money, thanks.

It's a Constitutionally valid law. Banning political speech by anyone except for the mass media is constitutional? Hardly.

This law prevents me from criticizing a candidate on air or mentioning his name or showing his image unless I am a government-approved media outlet. It prevents me from purchasing an ad or pooling resources with others to purchase an ad.
It also makes political parties official parts of the government, which was never intended.
And watch your mouth, ok?

Start your own newsletter, write a tv script, play, novel, short story, publish articles on politics if you can't play by the new rules. There are many ways to skin a cat.Excellent point. All any of us have to do is set up our own national newspaper or gain control of one of the big television-cable networks and we can freely express our opinions on a national scale in the last few weeks before an election while the opinions of our opponents, who do not own national newspapers or control a cable-television network, are reduced to so much white noise.
We don't even need to do that. We can each establish an Internet blog in which we may publish our opinions to be read by exactly no one.

Seriously. How has your life just changed? In the same way his life was changed by the Patriot Act.
We're all doomed, I tell you!
