Freepers sister in life or death situation-Florida-help please!! PRAYER REQUEST

Hi Trussel and all prayer warriors, could you please ping your prayer list to posts 1, 157 and 180 to catch them up and to PRAY for this wonderful young woman?

In case you don't know much about her, she is a 51 year old RN, who is out of work with no insurance, who went in the hospital a little over a month ago for a spinal abcess. What should have been surgically repaired, was treated by meds because of her lack of insurance.

The result was FURTHER LIFE THREATENING AND PERHAPS FATAL INJURY to her liver. Right now, her sister and another RN, are trying to RESCUE her from the hospital she is in, and take her to SHANDS in Florida. WE PRAY THIS IS GOING TO WORK!!!!

She caught Hep/C from a patient years ago. Now after years of caring for others, she finds herself with no insurance, and because of that, not getting the kind of care she SHOULD have gotten. THUS THE RESCUE ATTEMPT. If you want to read a HORROR STORY.. read this thread. Her sister Beach_Babe (Alice) has been trying to do everything to save her sister's life.

Heavenly Father, we return to give You thanks that Claudia and Beach_Babe remain faithful to the task of trying to deliver Marilyn into the health care she needs. I pray, Creator God, that You will work through all the red tape and bring Marilyn to a place where she can be helped. Remember her years of caring for others ... return to her, O God, people who will loving care for her. I pray for her return to health, in the Name of Jesus, Amen ...

I'm very confused about this situation, and it has to do with either the laws of Florida or the administrative quirks of this particular hospital.

It stands to reason that only one person would have the Medical Power of Attorney ("Advanced Health Care Directive") to designate, "Do Not Resuscitate", but it appears that Alice was denied this right because she wasn't the eldest sibling.
If that is the case, then why would she be the one to sign the DNR?

I've never heard of anyone being forced to sign a DNR!
That is utterly ridiculous!

I know I've learned in the past few months that I would rather go to the hospital in Timbuktu than Florida!

Dear Lord, please watch over this woman.
Evil forces are at work, dear Father, and we ask your help in driving them out.
Please be with the family as they act as your tools, dear Lord, to help Marilyn.

I know. They MADE their older brother sign the POA, then had Alice sign the DNR. Makes NO sense at all.

I'm as baffled as you are on this one. I wouldn't put my worst enemy in that hospital if even one third of what I've heard of Marilyns treatment is true! (And of course I believe with all my heart, everything Beach_Babe has told us).

I agree with your sentiments. It would seem something truly evil is at work in this situation.

It may well be easier in this intractable situation to simply accept that her time is at hand, as shall thus for us all someday.

But only the Lord knows such is the case, so please make it a point as a family to ask of Him and then act in accordance with His will. Prayers from me for insight, faith, and peace for you and the rest of your family -- and for your sister's comfortable passage through the veil and into the welcoming arms of a loving Father in Heaven and the loved ones who preceded her to that realm of comfort and peace.

Shands is (or was from what I can see on my search tool) a Liver Transplant hospital!!

Shands still is a liver transplant hospital and I have heard good things about it.

My son had a liver transplant (not at Shands) and I have become pretty knowledgable on this subject.

Past couple fo days have been hectic. Finally got Marilyn released to home from the Ocala hospital....as a hospice patient. The hospice people said, in their opinion, she has about 3 weeks to live. At least my mom got to see her ... although Marilyn was basically unconscious and was moaning and groaning constantly. I brought two of her cats here ... placed them on her bed, hoping that she'd feel better ... but she didn't seem to notice they were there.

Claudia and I got her up to Shands at the U of Florida in Gainesville last night via private transport and they were horrified at her condition. Her skin is breaking apart ... possible thrush too. She's there now and in the best of hands. Hopefully, they can do something for her.

After getting about 3 hours sleep in a 48-hour period, Claudia and I crashed and slept today away ... and now I have to eat and clean up the house which has become a complete wreck over the past couple of days.
