[history]
December 9, 2003 -- WASHINGTON - The genitals of Bronx-born federal prosecutor Jonathan Luna were beaten savagely before he died and his body was discovered in an area where people go for sexual trysts - suggesting his death may be a "crime of passion" - cops said yesterday. Investigators now say they are focusing on whether the 38-year-old, Baltimore-based assistant U.S. attorney and father of two had a secret life outside of his job and family - and whether a relationship in that secret life suddenly spun out of control and turned violent.

From
Fox News, 12/8/03...
"Investigators also were looking into a credit card Luna held without his wife's knowledge and into postings of messages by someone who went by the name of Jonathan Luna, according to a federal law enforcement official who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity. The postings were to an Internet news group where people advertise for female sex partners."

Dare anyone say the "g" word? Could be a gay thing but so far it does not look that way. Earlier reports were that he had placed classified ads seeking a heterosexual relationship, not homosexual. This may have been an angry boyfriend of one of his partners, or a pimp exacting some revenge.
They sure have had a tough time backing off the initial gushing praise they were heaping on this guy. Now even his boss didn't like him. Soon they'll tell us that his dog wasn't that crazy about the guy either.

Or the body could deliberately have been placed there to make it look like a "crime of passion." I find it hard to believe that he would use his own name on the Internet sex sites. However, his wife not knowing about the credit card is troubling.

Colleagues added that the normally well-prepared Luna often appeared distracted and was admonished by the trial judge for making errors during his last prosecution of two rappers who ran a violent heroin ring. "He was definitely off his game," said a colleague.Wonder if this had anything to do with Luna's acquiescence to a plea bargain deal that was much more favorable to the defendants?

It certainly wouldn't be hard to get a credit card in someone's name if you knew their SSAN.

He didn't have a credit card in someone elses name did he? I thought it was in his own name, but his wife was unaware of that particular card.

Was this guy into "S & M" or what? First place to look, if I were an investigator, which I'm not, is right in the Feds back yard.

Same thing...not hard to get a credit card at all if the SSAN is known, besides, lots of people have credit cards that their spouse is unaware of, especially if used for business expenses, etc.

Don't let your cats get a hold of them, you'll end up with tons of cat toys and catnip.

...admonished by the trial judge for making errors during his last prosecution of two rappers... I read another article that gave some detail. Reportedly, Luna failed to disclose some details to the defense before the trail about the gov't's star prosecution witness. Supposedly, this error led to the plea deal. The guys were up on charges that could have resulted in life sentences. Plea deal was for 13 years. Luna's trips to Lancaster Cty could certainly account for his being "distracted" (lack of sleep?)--esp. if those were all middle of the night trips like this one.

Reportedly, Luna failed to disclose some details to the defense before the trail about the gov't's star prosecution witness.I'm not a lawyer, but if that's true, isn't that a pretty boneheaded mistake to make on a prosecutor's part?

This is sounding more and more to me like a guy who became hooked on cheap sex and it ruined him. Unfortunate, but a real lesson for all of us in staying faithful. Another Commandment proves true...

I too wondered if he was into S and M. Mainly because to inclict multiple stabs to him would be hard unless he was bound up ,,it was a small knife also, the kind of thing a woman would carry. I wonder if he was being blackmailed and somehow the plea bargain due to his incompetence was due to a willing sort of throwing of the case. Anyhow, it is not what it seemed at first. You have to envy the investigators who have such a good pic of what wass going on due to computer records, etc.
