He didn't have a credit card in someone elses name did he? I thought it was in his own name, but his wife was unaware of that particular card.

Same thing...not hard to get a credit card at all if the SSAN is known, besides, lots of people have credit cards that their spouse is unaware of, especially if used for business expenses, etc.
