Janklow, the state's only congressmanIn addition to only one Represenatative, South Dakota ought to have 1/16th of a Senator instead of one and a half.

If Janklow has any decency left in him, I would expect him to resign his seat. But the single biggest problem with the modern professional politician (all levels, parties, and states) is their tendency to hang onto their elective offices no matter what: criminal conviction, illness, family tragedy, ethics violations, age-related debilitation. Makes no difference, because they have such a strong sense of entitlement to the offices they occupy. Too bad the term limits movement has pretty much died out. Sigh.

The wheels of justice grind exceedingly slow, but they grind exceedingly fine...

Diabetes is a serious illness, and I don't think most Americans knows how it affects us on a daily level. I guess the jury just threw the "reasonable doubt" doctrine into the trash. He knew he had diabetes, and testified that he went 18 hours without eating and then got behind the wheel. Even his own version of what happened shows him to have been reckless.

I concur. I know and like Bill.....but he was wrong in this case. We have wide open spaces here in South Dakota, that really do invite the temptation to speed. But that is no excuse. Justice here seems to hold our politicians more accountable than in Massachusetts. I really cringed when I heard of his "lack of Twinkie" defense. I expected better of him.

Cute, Miss Herseth DEFINITELY is, but the award for "Most Jaw-Droppingly Gorgeous Congressional Candidate" must go to....
Melissa Martin (VA CD-08).
And yes.... she's a Republican.

He tried to cover that base by claiming that his heart medication clouded his judgement. Funny, he never mentioned his diabetes as a cause at the scene of the accident....and he tried to claim that he had to swerve to avoid another vehicle. But that other vehicle didn't exist - besides, he has used that excuse once before.

She looks very pretty. Genuinely pretty...not just from a flattering photo.

Several witnesses said they did not see Janklow eat or drink anything that day, including Daschle, who called the congressman "a very truthful person."If I had been on the jury, I would have convicted him on that statement alone. Daschle wouldn't know the truth if it walked up and hit him.
Wise-cracks aside, based on what I have heard of the case, I'm glad Janklow was convicted. And my prayers are with the family of Randy Scott.

...and let me say that we NEED good looking people like this. I hope she has a smoothe voice and kind, charming demeanor to match.

Thanks. I had fun making it, but I wasn't sure whether anyone else would share my sense of humor.

I hope he has to do real time in a real jail. None of this ankle-bracelet nonsense. He is a menace to the driving public.

Among the "possible candidates" in 2000 Barb Everist seemed to stand out...
This will be a hard one to hold however...
and in the general the left over aroma may take a point or two off Thune's totals against the ferret... and that would be enough to keep him from overcoming the dead indian vote.
A tragedy all around. Sad ...
