It's not that bad. One fellow I know has a lake in the middle of his allotment. Berries, ducks, fish in summer and sometimes caribou. And an airstrip so he can call in fresh provisions in January.

Now, this whole reparations deal is interesting. Suppose the descendants of slaves were compensated. Why shouldn't THEIR descendants also be compensated? And THEIR descendants? And so on, ad finitum? Every generation could just apply for their compensation at birth, like an entitlement.

I see nothing wrong with paying those folks a "right of Way" fee of 140 acres - We are getting something in return. I can not say the same for todays free people of color. Those seeking reperations are most likely the ones already collecting welfare, wanting an addtional a free ride for nothing in return.

If there were any actual slaves alive today, I mean a real, proven, hard-working slave, then, sure, that ticket to Africa would be just fine...

Slavery actually holds back an economy. The North was able to defeat the South because of a strong industrial economy, while the South was based on making money from agriculture. Places like Haiti should be the powerhouses of the world becuase their entire economies in the 18th and 19th centuries revolved around slavery.

Reparations is an idea that has no basis in law or fact. There is no way to saddle current taxpayers with a moral responsibilty that ended 140 years ago. If there were any claims, they ended with the death of the last slave owner and slave who was owned by him.

The facts: Slavery, as we refer to it in discussions about reparations, ended when the British, who ruled the high seas, started intercepting slavers in the 1820's. So it went on for about 200 years. About 10 million were shipped to the new world, but...only 5% to North America. The rest were consumed in the plantations of Central and South America,as well as the Caribbean. So 500,000 poor souls were shipped here, and about 400,000 survived the trip. From these, our current African American population descended.

Unlike their homeland, where their lives were worthless, here they were extremely valuable. So they were kept alive and protected. Treated badly too, in many cases, but the survival rate was better here than in the tribal warfare back home.

Someone like a statistically enabled historian without bias, could probably compare the life expectancy of the original Africans to their descendants and get the answer and a PhD. Bet the ones that came here are more numerous and better off too.

Being hispanic, I want money from Spain for what they did to my Aztec/Inca/Mayan relatives. Plus I want money from Italy for the Romans enslaving my spanish ancestors. I have been thinking of starting an nonprofit organization to buy a one way ticket to any location for all people that are not happy with America. They would have to sign a document giving up citizenship and could only take a couple bags for clothes. They would have to ship anything else (at their own expense) or sell it. If they realize they made a mistake and want back in, they would have to legally immigrate like all other people from foreign countries (no comments about illeagal immigration please).

I have been wanting to do this since I was in high school and listened to the upper middle income kids talk about how bad America is and how bad they have it. They drove a Mercedes to school and I walked or got dropped off for the longest time. I then borrowed a car that was given to the family.

Only problem with your post is that (I believe) the Feds are not allowed to sell, let alone give, the land they own that is considered protected (marsh lands, etc.). How much of the land the Feds owns is protected? I bet it is quite a bit. Also, I can't see them giving parks away in plots of land. Aren't National Parks considered protected also?

SLAVE REPATRIATIONS ACT - HOUSE RESOLUTION 2004

Section 1. -- COORPORATE RESPONICIBLITY FOR SPREAD OF SLAVERY
Clause A. -- Political Enities

Whereas, historical records indiciate that many segements within the DEMOCRATIC Party openly aided and abetted the growth of slavery, but no portion of the Republican Party did so.

Whereas, the DEMOCRATIC Party platform promoted the interests of the slave trade at several national conventions, but no other party choose to do so.

Whereas, the DEMOCRATIC Party spent over a century obstructing civil rights, the abolishment of slavery, and equal opporunities, but the Republican Party never did so.

Therefore, the political enity known as the DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF THE UNITED STATES, and its organizational wing, the DEMOCRAT NATIONAL COMMITTEE, is renounced by the United States Congress for its unique role in the spread of slavery.

In the interests of healing the wounds of slavery and repatriting the ancestors of it, The DEMOCRAT PARTY is hereby:

I. Order to pay a sum of no less than $2000 to any descendent of slaves, black or white. This shall NOT be be construed to allow payment to those who are registered MEMBERS of the Democrat Party, including Democrat Party voters-- who are aiding and abeting the evils of the party.

II. Official renounce each of the times their party went public with support of slavery, and therefore publically commend the Republican Party for their leadership in refusing to support the cause of slavery.

III. Delete any and all national legislation passed by members of the DEMOCRAT Party from the years 1844 (formation of the Democratic National Committee) until 1965 (when civil rights legislation was in place)

IV. Immediately remove any DEMOCRAT Party officeholders in the United States, federal, state, or local levels, who either:
A. Are the descendant of a DEMOCRAT elected official who supported slavery
B. Currently hold the POST that a Democrat elected official who promoted slavery once held, thereby profiting from an office that grew in power due to slavery.

Passed in Washington, D.C., by the 108th Congress, in the year Two Thousand and Four, January 1st.

I think you bring up a very good point. I've heard that a rather sizeable percentage of the so called "white" population has black ancestory. And, we know from the black activists that almost all the black women were sex objects for the white man, so most blacks must have some white blood. If reparations were to come to pass, then the cours would be filled with whites claiming black blood and blacks trying to prove no white blood.

how about every irish family in america that came here at the turn of the century as indentured servents wont see any of us irish crying about reparations my people have more pride than that!
