Correction "He was nice enough and I do NOT think he was acting like he had some God given right to act superior... "

Actually, I know several members of the Walker family, and have "chummed around" with them. They are not as distant as you think.

Actually, even more ironic about Kennedy is that the sins of his father were not visited upon him...

Here's the news, young man: JFK was more than likely killed for the sins of his father.

His transgressions are very common knowledge...

Kennedy's transgressions, as you refer to them, are not acknowledged to this day by his deluded admirers.

And I can assure you that though there is a St. John, I do not think JFK was the one who they have in mind...

Being from sunny Kalifornicate, you've never had the displeasure of seeing the iconic, backlit photo of Saint Jack adorning myriad bedroom dressers all over eastern Massachusetts and have no conception of how deeply delusional NE liberals can be. It's not pretty.

I would ask what flaws do you think are acceptable in a President and which ones are not.

In addition to my brief against the Kennedy scum? I don't have the time.

Bush and Kennedy come from money.

The Bush family didn't make their money running a massive criminal enterprise.

They both have father's with influence.

Kennedy's father made his influence felt by buying people (journalists, voters, etc) while staying in the background and manipulating events, while George H.W. Bush gained influence by openly working his way up through the political system.

They both have questionable extracurricular activities.

W drank as a young man and was rumored to have experimented with drugs (as a very large minority of us did in the 60s and 70s). I am unaware of W getting laid in the WH, skinny dipping with the secretaries while Laura slept upstairs or buying votes with cash, all of which Kennedy did. Well except that it wasn't Laura upstairs when Jack was boffing the stenos.
;O)

They both could be accused of taking a little too good care of friends and family...
That is what politics are about...

No sh!t, Sherlock.

Did you wish to compare or contrast Bush and Kennedy?

I just did.

Flawed men all, but did a good job in the office...

Only Communists believe in the perfectablity of man. And they don't care how many they have to kill to achieve it.

Read the post by johnb838. He sums my understanding of the PT109 accident. I have no condemnation of Kennedy himself. Accidents happen in war. He admitted later on in his life that his actions disn't deserve the medal.

My remarks are against Molly's ill-concieved comments..

Sorry I didn't reply sooner.

Just to keep the record straight, I grew up in Texas, served in Germany, Italy, and California and stayed in California afterwards...

And I am well aware of Joseph Kennedy's womanizing, his anti-semitism, his "import" business, and his falling out with FDR that ended his hopes to be President...

Perhaps, I watch A&E and the history channel too much... :-)

And I appreciate you contrasting the two.... I think there are similarities in their backgrounds and ambitions but a clear difference in their moral and life choices.

And I like A. Conan Doyle but I have no interest in law enforcement... :-)

There are many things I have never personally experienced, but still have knowledge of. Just because a heart surgeon never had a heart attack does not mean the surgeon does not have a pretty solid understanding of what it's like to have a heart attack.

But there is a distinct difference. A heart surgeon might know how to fix a heart attack, but unless he personally had one, he wouldn't know what one feels like. Someone might know everything there is to know about 18th century sailing vessels, but until he climbs to the royal main in 25ft swells, he really hasn't experienced it.

Being born rich is something that totally effects one's view of life. (BTW, I hold nothing against people born rich. It's better to accept it than feel guilty and be a liberal a la Howard Dean). GW never had to eat hot dogs and PB&J sandwiches for two weeks straight when starting his business. He's never had to forgo an article of clothing or new toy because there wasn't enough money in the budget. He's never had to work two jobs to send his kids to private school.

President Bush has never experienced monetary want so he has a hard time relating to it. In that regard, she's right. But in this instance it's pretty stupid because while Ivan's (correctly) points out that Bush might not have a great idea what it's like to be a construction worker, he did push through a tax cut, something Ms. Ivans would no doubt criticize until the cows came home.

I'm not familiar enough with Ivan's writing to comment intelligently, but this DOES seem like the typical Bush Bashing piece.

I'm lukewarm on the President. I really like his stance in international affairs and almost seems Reaganesque in that regard, but it seems like the GOP has abandoned the concept of limited government with. I'll vote for him again as long as he does not reauthorize the AW ban.

With respect, the President went to Yale as a legacy. Also, these days, a Harvard or Yale edamacashun ain't what it used to be.

Having a fancy sheepskin doesn't necessarily make one smarter.

It is a blessing and a burden, a well to do person told me once... Hahn (in LA), Brown (in CA), Udall, Kennedy, Taft, Rockefeller, Bush, Tyson (in AR), Gaylord (in OK), Hunt (in TX), Ford (in MI and TN), Barrymoore (in Hollywood), Dupont (anywhere :-))... Not easy names to live with....

"Class exists in our country, and thinking you can chum around with one of these people is juvenile."

Interesting point. Class DOES exist and it's amazing how much it affects someone. I deal (business-wise) with some pretty wealthy people. While I can put my dress-for-success suits on and speak well, I feel so uncomfortable around them. I almost get the hives when I'm in one of those super-rich bars or restaurants and the bill comes to a thousand dollars. Give me a place with sawdust on the floor any time.

Also, wasn't there a Senator Prescott Bush from Connecticut? I thought that was Bush 41's father?

My hostility wasn't directed at you, I just hate molly ivens with a passion. Her combination of stupidity and arrogance, along with her snotty name-calling that passes for clever debate with the left, just pushes my buttons. I apologize if youthought I was attacking you, but I have never seen anything written by ivens that I agreed with, even the stuff she plagerized from Florence King.

Agreed. As another poster pointed out, the Bush family is of that type that has run the country from the begining. For the most part, I think they've done a good job.

I had the misfortune to live across the bay from the haloed compound for close to thirty years. Most of the locals consider the Kennedys trash and neither Jack nor Eddie the Clown (Ted's Harvard nickname) ever carried Barnstable County. That should tell one a little something, eh?

Yup, the Dims are on the verge of self-destruction: Those who have not yet gone over the edge are teetering on the brink, or -- in a few cases -- have come to their senses and have abandoned the shipwreck. In any event, the Democratic Party has morphed into the Socialist and Marxist Parties, and thus will no longer be taken seriously.

"Texas is a perennial leader in hunger because we have 43 counties in South Texas (and some in East Texas) that are like Third World countries."

Yes, 43 counties in South Texas that are inundated with illegal invaders and are indeed what the demonrats favor, and would like to turn the rest of America into, it is a third world country that votes solidly demonrat even though the demonrats have done zip to garner their illegal votes.

Illegals have developed shanty towns made of plywood and trash that resembles Mexico City. Bush went in pandering and built them roads, water lines, and electricity. The demonrats certainly never did that, and it's the one thing I don't hold against them and a reason not to vote for Bush.

Even though he added to the ten billion dollar Texas debt using tax money to pander to invaders that shouldn't be at the ballot box, they still voted demonrat and will do so in 2004. The only thing Bush accomplished is another addition to the list of reasons to go fishing on election day.
