sometimes you just have a really crappy day

And sometimes you believe your own press. Oklahoma started believing everything the press was saying about them and walked out onto the field thinking KState would lay down because they've got those pretty red helmets. The day you start believing your press is the day you get hit so hard a snot-bubble comes out of your nose.

BTW, Syracuse just mopped up the floor with Notre Dame and then kicked their *sses for missing the corners. This knocks down USC's ratings, as USC beat Notre Dame earlier this year. PROBABLY OU-LSU in the Sugar Bowl.

That's what happened with LSU-Florida.

If we had won that they'd be no doubt who'd be number 1.

...the coaches may very well vote for USC, ...

The coaches are contractually obligated to vote the winner of the Sugar Bowl #1. Now, the writers can vote for whomever they wish. And USC will likely be the #1 team in both polls on Monday and would surely remain so in the AP poll with a Rose Bowl victory. So we're almost guaranteed a split championship this year.

"It could happen with a lackluster game in the Sugar Bowl"

The only problem with your argument is this little snippet.

If LSU and USC are in the Sugar Bowl almost any outcome would be considered anything but lackluster.

On the other hand, if OU goes to the Sugar Bowl, they'd have to win big to be convincing if LSU or USC runs over Michigan in the Rose Bowl.

The long and the short of it is that the system is seriously flawed. I'd much rather see teams with and 8 game streak (11-1 USC) and a 7 game streak (12-1 LSU) play for the Championship, than either against a team with a 1 game losing streak (12-1 OU).

If OU is in the Sugar Bowl after being twounced (35-7) by Kansas State (10-3) who lost 3 games in a row (Marshall, Texas, OKla St.) to end the season, that would be boring.

Sports Illustrated is projecting OU vs LSU in the Sugar Bowl. USC got really hurt by Notre Dame and Hawaii losing. It could be USC vs LSU if the writers and coaches really punish Oklahoma by putting them in 4th place. But that is unlikely.

Not according to those "expert" pundits at ESPN, Mark May and Trev Alberts. They said it's possible for the team NOT playing in the Sugar Bowl to be voted 1st in both post season polls, resulting in a Co-National Championship.

I actually heard this same scenerio mentioned several weeks ago when Ohio State was still in the mix to go to the Sugar Bowl.

Now, THAT would be $crewed up!!!!!

Actually, the coaches are contractually obligated to pick the winner of the sugar bowl as #1. The writers can pick whomever they want.

Assume that Oklahoma and LSU play in the sugar bowl, and it's a dreary 6-3 game with LSU winning. USC blows out Michigan 35-3. LSU would be #1 in the coaches poll, they would pick USC #2. Then it would be flip flopped in the writers poll. LSU would still be the "official" champion, but not many people would be happy. Best scenario for the college people is that whomever doesn't go, loses in the other game. Otherwise, it's going to be very controversial.

Just amazing. The team that will be ranked No. 1 in the country is not playing for the championship.

The screwiest thing about all of this is that a likely outcome (if USC is left out of the Sugar Bowl and wins the Rose Bowl) will be a split national championship. Which is exactly what the BCS was established to avoid.

College football has other problems the BCS can't help. The Big 12 and SEC play a conference championship game, while the PAC-10 and Big 10 don't. Leave out the conference championship, and no one would be arguing OU shouldn't be in the Sugar Bowl. Allowing some BCS conferences to give their regular season champion an easier path to the bowls is not something any system - inculding the old AP / Coaches polling system - can fix.

And a play off system is still going to have an arbitrary cut-off point where some 2 or 3 loss team playing hot at the end of the season will be left out, while some 2 or 3 loss team they soundly beat earlier in the season wins the championship. It will also take a lot of the excitement out of the regular season games.

Short answer - no system is going to please everyone.

Hummmmm.....Seems that whiff of emotionalism messed your critical thinking skills up..(VBG)

Yeah, the BCS is a messed up deal. Yes, there should be a reasonable play-off system. But, OU isn't a fraud. And Stoops is well-respected.....by many throughout the nation.

Heck, a good/great argument could be made for KS St. playing the best football down the stretch. But's that's a subjective argument.......And sometimes the better team doesn't win.

Nice rant though.....although it's a typical illogical fan rant.

BTW, do you know why the corn in OK leans towards TX down near the border? Yeah, I think you do..!! Hehehehe

Oklahoma - LSU in the Sugar Bowl
Michigan - USC in the Rose Bowl

Sadly, that's the best scenario of a bad situation. Idiot Sooners. No national championship team should EVER lose a big game 35-7. Screw 'em. I changed my mind -- the game should be USC-LSU.

Hehehe- The SEC is the strongest division in football, but they rarely get a national championship cause they beat themselves up playing for their own conference championship... GO LSU!

Yeah right. Lousiana Monroe is really a tough opponent.

It's my understanding that the National Champion is the winner of the BCS Nat'l Championship Game, regardless of what the polls say. I suppose a team could claim they're the champion according to a particular poll, but I believe NCAA records will only show the Sugar Bowl winner as the national champion this year.

From ESPN:

Can the Sooners remain No. 1 in the BCS Standings without being ranked first in either of the two "human" polls? Is America staring at a split national championship? And is it really true that the final BCS Standings were determined by what happened in upstate New York earlier in the day, and in Honolulu in the wee hours of Sunday, Eastern time?

Yes.
