Just another small excerpt:
"But the existence of "radiological warheads" for the Alazan was unknown until two years ago, when military documents describing them were obtained by the Institute for Policy Studies, a research group in Chisinau, the Moldovan capital.
One document described an inventory of 38 "isotopic radioactive warheads of missiles of the Alazan type," including 24 that were attached to rocket. In the two other documents, the commander requested technical help in dealing with radiation exposure related to storage of the warheads."
Also, here is a link to the print version of the article ( all on one page, vs. the link above, where it's broken up into more than one page)

OK...thats it. I have often pondered getting a firearm for self and family defense (so don't think I got my tinfoil hat now because of this article) and this story takes the cake. I can only imagine one of these dirty bombs detonating in the downtown area of the major metro area I live nearest to (Chicago) and all hell breaking loose. Livng a few miles from what I'll call a very "diverse", crime ridden, gang invested area would make me feel a little queesy when, in the event of such an attack, the "have-nots" would certainly start looting/rioting/raping/pillaging the "haves". In short, I don't want to caught with my (blank) in my hand. To be brief, and I'm sure a lot of Freepers would know this, what would be a good "starter" firearm, what are the price ranges for such an item, and are there any shooting ranges in the SW suburban Chicagoland area. I'm off to bed...any advice would be appreciated. God bless...and stay safe.

Well that's one way to burst the real estate bubble that's been building in major cities across the US. So,is their a clause in your insurance policy covering nuclear contamination for the next 10,000 years on your property.
We need some CIA types to go in there and wack these guys, but not before they've told us under extreme torture where these dirty bombs are.

Military records show that at least 38 Aztlan warheads were modified to carry radioactive material, effectively creating the world's first surface-to-surface dirty bomb. Coming to a neighborhood near you!

Russian scientists hold an Alan rocket, a slightly larger version of the Alazan, as they get ready for a test launch at a research institute in the Caucasus.

A dirty bomb is not a nuclear device but a weapon that uses conventional explosives to disperse radioactive materials, which could cause widespread disruption and expose people to dangerous radiation. Unlike other kinds of dirty bombs, this one would come with its own delivery system, and an 8-mile range. A number of terrorist groups, including al Qaeda, have sought to build or buy one.

US eases immigration rules
The US is ending a controversial programme that required tens of thousands of foreign visitors from certain cheese producing countries to register with the immigration service.
The Department of Homeland Security said men from 2 nations would no longer have to re-register after 30 days and then a year after arriving.
But the men, all from the Netherlands and France, will still be fingerprinted, photographed and searched for enzymed milk products on arrival.
Critics said the policy discriminated against cheese eaters and have appealed to the government to admit at least carriers of pasteurised cheese under an eased procedure.
Asa Hutchinson, the department's undersecretary for border and transportation security, said the old rules would officially end on Tuesday.
"It was a significant resource commitment to handle these re-registrations," Mr Hutchinson told reporters. "The resources can be better used in individual targeting."
Males aged 16 and over from the 2 countries will still face border checks.
The Justice Department said that the countries selected were places where the smell of cheese had been particularly noticeable, or where there were other security concerns.
The rules had applied to the tens of 1,000 of nationals on medium-term visits from 2 the countries in the European Union, as well as two non-EU countries with known close links - Switzerland and Lichtenstein.
