Homosexual Cannibal Admits To Eating Victim
Summary: Reuters reports on December 3, that Armin Meiwes has admitted in a German court that he killed and ate a man he met through the Internet. The Reuters story neglected to mention that Meiwes was a homosexual.
WARNING:You will be reading very disturbing material.
Armin Meiwes searched for a willing victim to cannibalize on the Internet by searching such discussion forums as "Cannibal Café," "Guy Cannibals," and "Torturenet." He finally found a man willing to be killed and eaten. He invited "Bernd-Juergen B." to his apartment, which had been rigged up like a slaughter house. The man allowed Meiwes to cut off his sex organ and eat it. Ten hours later, the victim fell unconscious and Meiwes slaughtered him and cut him up like a side of beef. He filmed the whole event. Meiwes' lawyer is arguing that he be given a lesser sentence under a German law known as "killing on request," which is considered an illegal form of euthanasia. The penalty for this crime is up to five years.
German legal authorities are saying the charge of murder is unlikely to stick because the victim was "consenting" to be killed an eaten. Meiwes received responses from 430 other men who indicated an interest in his proposal.
Vanderbilt Anthropology Professor Beth Conklin has written sympathetically about cannibalism in research she has done on the Wari' tribe that lives in the Amazon. According to Conklin, "We assume that cannibalism is always an aggressive, barbaric and degrading act. But that is a serious over-simplification, one that has kept us from realizing that cannibalism can have positive meanings and motives that are not that far from our own experience," says Conklin.

Not to worry. After the initial shock, the German people will come to tolerate and accept this rich and diverse cultural practice.
These things take time. The Nazis weren't conditioned to shovel Jews into ovens overnight. Given time, people can be "guided" to accept anything as OK.

Anyone read STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND?
I bet Heinlein could have concocted one heck of a reasonable explanation for this man's actions...and those of his "victim."
(Was there really a victim?)

(No. The number of components do not equal the number of species present. But why not?)

The interesting 'bits' to this story...the cannibal was a computer engineer type who had an extremely high income, and enjoyed his lifestyle. The dimwit victim...actually talked to the cannabal at the train station...went to the house...talked there some more...felt uncomfortable...went back to the train station with the cannibal...and then suddenly changed his mind there (he was home free...but was too stupid to realize it). The cannibal apparently recorded the whole episode...and the court case is uphill because the victim went along with the entire episode...so murder just isn't a tag you can pin on this episode. And finally....the cannibal has hinted...that there are up to 800 of his buddies in Germany. The cops have investigated this comment and aren't making a comment. They are probably pretty shocked and really don't want to start a cannibal hunt...but if you look at the 200-300 people who come up missing each year in Germany...there might be a couple of active cannibals out there in the shadows. All the more reason to carry a weapon....but the authorities really don't want that to happen.

This is obviously just way too cool for any of us to ever understand.

In Australia, recently, there was a serial killing case involving a group of men who preyed on others. Cannabilism was involved, as well as torture. (It the South Australian "bodies in the bank" case.) They operated for years, undetected. And one wonders - are there others?

There are freaks on the margins of every society. And the smartest thing a society can do is kill them immediately. There are some things you take no prisoners for.... cannibalism is one of them.
