Superintendent Ken Kruithof said after the board meeting that the school system is following a state law that requires a one-year expulsion and being consistent in the system's "zero-tolerance" policy. Zero-Tolerance = Zero Discretion = Zero brains.

Utter insanity.

Along these same lines I just heard on FOX news about a school district that has imposed a 'tardy tax' that amounts to $168.00. The interesting thing about the report was the police involvement. The 'gates' of the school closes at a certain time in the morning and then some kind of social officer patrols around the school and picks up late-comers. It was a surreal piece of news reporting. (there actually was an ironwrought gate)All the gates were locked except one. A police officer was interviewed and was stating that there is a problem with lateness at the school and it disrupts classes, blah, blah, blah and I kept wondering why in the world a police officer was injecting himself into a tardy problem with a school district.

This kind of thing, combined with compulsory school attendance, is frightening in its implications.

Herpin considers Stiles an "average student" in both grades and behavior but said Stiles never got in serious enough trouble to warrant an expulsion. Kruithof said Stiles had other disciplinary incidents in the past but said he didn't know if they resulted in suspensions. JMHO, but based on this, I think there's probably a lot more to the story than has been reported here.

"I think a one-year expulsion for an over-the-counter medicine is pretty severe," Herpin said. How dare this peasant question the decisions of her liege-lords! Doesn't she know her place? Her place is to obey and to raise children who will not question the word of her betters! < /sarcasm >

Zero tolerance is zero tolerance. It relieves everyone of the burden of thinking and using common sense. We are becoming a society of zombies, submitting ourselves to those who know what is best for us.
Just amazing.

All the more reason why - whether I have to sell my body on the street or by the pound to afford public school ---- or homeschool (our choice, ha) - my child will not go to public school.

Whole country darn near FREAKS OUT over the Winter flu virus--to an extent not seen in any other country--(probably has to do with the over cleanliness manners and diet and exercise of the USA...but that's another topic)--then some poor kid gets busted by PC run amok, for a having common medicine.
Only in America. Sometimes neurotic, contradictory and over-reactionary in some of the strangest places.
Maybe they'll bring out the photos on milk cartons again??

Everytime I here about one of these examples of lunacy I cant help to think that the school is actually teaching the kid a lesson that will come back to haunt them.
The kid will no doubt learn an abiding hatred for the school system and government in general.

The drug rules concerning Advil, inhalers and other medication are ridiculous.
As pointed out by another poster, these kids can obtain birth control AT SCHOOL paid for by us, without our consent or knowledge. How then, do the NEA nazis figure they can stick their noses in our teenagers purses, when they don't want us (parents) involved in our child's decision to take birth control.
In Minnesota, clinics are in the schools, complete with condoms and birth control, and abortion counseling.
