A New 9/11 (UN report says al-Qaida is planning a strike using biological and chemical weapons)
NY Newsday ^ | December 3, 2003

If anyone still doubted that al-Qaida continues to pose extreme danger to this nation and its allies, a confidential UN report should put those doubts to rest. Produced by an independent panel of terrorism experts for the Security Council, this disturbing report concludes that al-Qaida is actively planning a catastrophic, 9/11-style strike and the only thing stopping it is a lack of technical expertise.

It says, "They [al-Qaida] have already taken the decision to use chemical and biological weapons in forthcoming attacks. The only restraint they are facing is the technical complexity to operate them properly and effectively."

That's not reassuring. Al-Qaida's lack of technical competence could be remedied quickly. What the United States and other target nations must realize is that this danger is real and imminent and the window of opportunity for defusing it is getting smaller every day.

This is an urgent wake-up call for President George W. Bush, who must not focus all of the nation's security resources on the war in Iraq to the exclusion of pre-empting another al-Qaida attack. The search for Osama bin Laden and his top henchmen should be as great a concern as the hunt for Saddam Hussein, and the need for international cooperation in rooting out al-Qaida cells worldwide must be a critical priority.

If he was focusing all of the nation's security resources on the war in Iraq this editorial might actually have a point.

But he isn’t so it’s pretty close to pointless.

Anyone who thinks that this administration is not focused on Al Qaeda, Bin Laden, or other terrorists assumes more than they should. These idiots' minds would be flat out boggled at the amount of intel that is processed on a daily basis in the Arabian Gulf theater alone. It's amazing that the administration has been saying this for months and months, and now when an 'independant' panel agrees it is used an excuse to yet again take a pot shot at the only people who have done anything of significance to stop the spread of terror in the last 10 years.

But, but, but, the UN is friendly to the bad guys. The UN doesn't believe there are any bad guys. They are just mis understood bad guys.

I sure wouldn't mind if this president made a statement that if we are attacked there are a group of cities in the Arab/Muslim world that are housing these terrorists & 1 or more will be leveled within 24 hrs if this should happen. They now know that he means what he says. Then again, GW might run around with Mueller afterwards & try to tell us that Islam is a religion of peace.

Yeah. Since terrorists generally sneak in from Canada, we ought to get busy walling off our northern border.
