Edwards Says Bush Favors Wealthy
Candidate: John Edwards
Market: Iowa
EDWARDS: This president should be made to explain why a multimillionaire sitting beside his swimming pool should be paying a lower tax rate than a teacher, than a police officer, than a secretary.
< snip >
...the commercial creates a misleading impression. Under Bush's tax cuts, the average single taxpayer Edwards is talking about -- earning less than $68,800 -- pays a rate of 15 percent or 25 percent, plus payroll taxes, while those earning more than $311,950 -- including multimillionaires -- pay the top rate of 35 percent.
Robert Gordon, Edwards's policy director, said the ad refers to wealthy people who live entirely on investment income and therefore pay a capital gains rate of 15 percent -- although the commercial makes no such distinction.

Hey cool Howie! Thanks for the ammo...I'm printing several copies of this to pass around to the ratz at the local watering hole today.
The article winds up with a lame hit claiming - I'm rephrasing - most of W's tax breaks has gone to the Americans with the most wealth.
DUH...they PAID more taxes too dummyratz!

I wanted to post this so I could grab it later, however it is from WP and I'm still uncomfortable posting excerpts from WP and LAT. If this is in violation please delete, and I apologize to the aformentioned parties.

I get such a kick out of watching Edwards and the rest of the left acting as if people who attained wealth didn't deserve any rights or consideration.
I do note that the wealthy liberals didn't seem to shirk taking perks from the likes of Clinton though. LOL

I am not sure I understand this. Is he saying 35% is liss than 15%?

To show how stupid the WP,etal media is, we should rewrite the misleading headline to read: "Edwards says Bush favors capitalism." When you learn theLib/commie/fascist/dumocrat code everything becomes less stressful.
If any newspaper or reporter had the cajones they would point out that in capitalist societies there are (oh my gd) wealty. And unlike Nazi Germany/Soviet Union, they get to keep it, well that excludes IRS,State Taxes, caniving relatives, crooked business partners etc etc.
I always find these stories very enlightening, yet it is never explained by the media.(Most are to Dum anyway)Yet it would be correct to have a title. "Edwards(any Dumocrats name will suffice)favors Nazi style economic system. The outrage that there are lazy, criminal(how else did they get rich)scofflaws that according to the Dumocrat party do not deserve to have such gross amounts of money, has (any dumocrat) candidate foaming at the mouth. Promising that if elected he will conviscate the majority of that wealth for the State.

I think it's my snipping that created that impression. In the original, complete article it state that the thirty second commerical being run in Iowa DOESN'T mention the rates. It's basically ratz ranting against anyone with money...except for fellow ratz of course.
The rebuttal...which I didn't make clear...comes from a pubbie spokesman and that's where the figures come in.

Even if we ignore for a moment that the top 1% pay 43% of the taxes and thus deserve 43% of the tax cut, it should be noted that Bush cut taxes for every working family that pays them. Does anyone doubt that if Democrats were in power, they would raise taxes for all Americans- just like Clinton did. Clinton promised then, as Democrats are promising now, to give the middle class a tax cut. Then, he laid a whopper on them with the largest tax increase in history. So when Democrats characterize across-the-board tax cuts as tax cuts for the rich, it's important for us to know their alternative to this is to raise taxes on everyone.

Two things: one, his examples are all paid by all government levels(well, except private school teachers who DO get paid a lot more). And two, those "capitalist pigs" sitting by their pools are the ones who put their money into companies who create jobs for those "unfortunate souls of the middle class". Do you think an extra $400 that a family would or could use it to create a job for someone or would an extra $5000 invested by a rich person create a job or two through their investments. I'd rather give someone more money through a tax cut to create a better job for me than get a tax cut. How can that cut benefit me if I'm not making any money(ie how can you cut X% from nothing)?

Edwards Says Bush Favors Wealthy That's an outrage! He should favor the POOR, who provide most of the jobs the rich work in. Uh, wait a sec...
