California Assembly Debating Repeal of Drivers License for Illegals (CA Assembly Repeals SB 60)
Posted on 12/01/2003 3:19:24 PM PST by ElkGroveDan
The California State Assembly is presently debating the repeal of SB 60 (SB 1XXX, Oller), the measure which gave drivers licenses to illegal aliens has already passed the State Senate, and late last week it passed the Assembly Transportation Committee. It is expected to pass the full Assembly, and after that it goes to the Governor for his signature.

Good news! Now Arnold needs to revive PROPOSITION 187, the only measure that might slow down this invasion and save California.

When he signs it, it is gone.Don't get excited, folks. I heard on talk radio this morning that Arnold made a deal with the original bill's author, Gil Cedillo. Arnold told Cedillo that if he'd agree to dump the bill now, Arnold would consider a revised version of it in the future. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Grabbing at straws ? As Gov. Arnold SHOULD consider every bill that gets passed by the legislature. He gave him NOTHING.
The Governator +14 and another bad law bites the dust !

Ambrose, are you saying you'd rather this went into effect on January 1, 2004, then was repealed later? Not me fella...
To: ElkGroveDan
I dont think this issue has gone away at all. Cedillo will be pushing hard for another law as early as this January. From the Democrat perspective this is just an attempt at an end run around the opposition to the bill, why do you think so many of them support it? Maybe all of a sudden theyve decided to represent the opinions of the majority of Californians, but I doubt it.
If you think Arnold is against drivers licenses for illegals youre incorrect. I fear that yet again well end up pandering to queue jumping scofflaws.
To: ElkGroveDan
No worries. The Undocumented Worker's Union, in cooperation with the ACLU, will just file suit in a court with a liberal judge (in other words, any court in Californica), who will unilaterally declare and legislate that illegal aliens have a constitutional right to a driver's license. Problem solved.
Just watch.

Some just can't handle that Arnold won, never mind that he's keeping his promises.

"What is there to debate? If they are illegals they should be arrested, tried in night court, and deported to Mexico or where ever."
Debate this:
Illegals ARE breaking the law and SHOULD be arrested, tried in night court, day court, city court, state court, and deported, but NONE of this is happening.
Instead, we actually had OUR U.S. polititians pass a law to GIVE ILLEGALS a valid,Republic (corporation) of California, driver's license.

No, enforcement of the statute is stayed once a referendum qualifies for the ballot.
Anyway, as another poster pointed out, a "bird in the hand"...

Thank you for the comment Ambrose. Good point about the stay.

When he signs it, it is gone. What happens to all the petitions that have been sent?
Cedillo(?) said that Arnold will consider another bill next year that insures background checks, more security. Will it be necessary to start the petition process all over again if this should happen?
One question, wouldn't a background check indicate the person is "Illegal" and should be deported?

Problem solved. Just watchinteresting thought..if a liberal judge would rule that way, I guess all the people in CA who have had a drivers license revoked for any reason to get it reinstated as a right. Now that would be an interesting development...hmmmmm just thinking out loud

"If you think Arnold is against drivers licenses for illegals youre incorrect. "
... Well let's see... Just how many undocumented illegals wil be able to pass the "extensive background checks" that Arnold wants ? ... Just how many will be able to fullfill the "insurance demands" that he wants included ?
I would say it is more likely that if YOU think Arnold is FOR licenses for illegals you had better think again.
It is much more likely that by having them waste their time trying to come up with a way to get past his requirements, he is keeping them off balence.
